Weekend Review
It's time again for the weekend round-up. We're helping you get your weekend planned.
First off, this Saturday's Cardinal Couple Radio Hour has already been recorded because of a noon-ish start for Football, so don't expect to hear the results of tonight's events when you tune in tomorrow. Just fair warning. It's a bit of an unusual line-up with this one as Paulie and I were both unable to be available for taping time, so Jared "The Money Man" Anderson, Case "I build things" Hoskins, and JC "no periods" Sullivan held the show down. I haven't heard it yet, but I'm looking forward to it. It will air (barring technical glitches) at it's normal time at 11am tomorrow.
(A report from Jared, Case and show engineer Monk indicates that all went well with the pre-record. We haven't heard back from JC yet. She may still be traumatized from being in the studio with those two. J and C with JC...)
Soccer Double-Header
See Bjerke kick the ball! |
The action for both will be on The ACC Network Extra. Look for Jared banging on his drum, and Case ranting about overtime rules...that may not be as visible on video, though. Paulie will be entertaining the other writers in the press box and, hopefully, get post-game comments after the women win.
Golf and Tennis
The Men's Golf team is in Johnson City, TN for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, while the women are in Chapel Hill for the Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course. Both of these events go through Sunday.
The Tennis teams are similarly scheduled. The Women are at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Murfreesboro, TN, while the Men are hosting the Louisville Invitational.
No video listed for any of these events.
Men's Basketball
As David Padgett starts to pull the program back together, the Men's Basketball will have an exhibition event tonight at the KFC Yum! Center. At 7pm, the first of two Red-White Scrimmages will get underway. No TV listed for this event, but a live stats link is available.
Regardless of how you feel about the revelations concerning this program in the past weeks, the show must go on, and by all accounts Padgett is doing an excellent job of providing stability and beginning to build a solid foundation for the future in the midst of crazy turmoil.
Jeff Walz revealed yesterday (hear soundclip below) that the women's will put on a ten-minute exhibition at halftime...so there's another reason to hit the KFC YUM! Center tonight!

Football
Hosting Boston College with a 12:20pm kickoff tomorrow. This one is listed as ACC Network...is it possible that it's not on linear TV at all? The ACC website shows it as being on "RSN", or the Raycom Sports Network, so that will likely mean on one of the Fox Sports channels.
It's homecoming, so buy your sweetie a corsage if you're attending.
B.C. hasn't been much on the field this year, so, hopefully, the Petrino guys will have a big win over the Eagles. Paulie was still trying to get rid of one ticket as of this writing. Seems Rick Pitino may not be there....

A Doozer |
doozy of an event a doozer? Paulie, please Google Image search "doozer" and select and appropriate picture. Yes, I'm a child of the Fraggle Rock era.)
Heading down to Chapel Hill to face the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels. They're only the third highest ranked team in the country, at number 5, but that's obviously still in the elite ranks of the sport. After a bit of a road slump, the FH'ers got it back together with a great homestand and hope to carry that momentum back out on the road with them.
In ACC standings, UNC and Louisville are tied, both with a 3-1 record. Handicapping this one? Yeah, I wish you luck.

Who am I? |
The Pre-National event is tomorrow, listed as all day, though I they get an early start, so if you want to head out to a fantastic park out in the east end of Louisville, you might want to set an alarm. The races get underway with a 10am seeded men's race. The women's seeded event starts at 10:45 with other events at 11:30 and 12:15. Louisville has runners in all but the men's seeded event.
If you can identify this former UofL women's athlete in the picture...let us know in the comments section. First correct answer gets you in the drawing for a Panera Card.

Swimming and Volleyball
OK, swimming and Volleyball seems an odd pairing for a section, but I have my reasons, bear with me.
Most of the women's swim team is in Dallas to compete in the SMU Classic. This is an event that our women's team has competed in for several years. It's a bit of an unusual format. Each school sends 8 swimmers and 1 diver. Each swimmer can only compete in 3 events during the day with one of them being a relay, but each school will put a swimmer into every heat of every race. The diver for each team will do six dives on 1-meter and 3-meter springboards.
This is always a fun event, and our swimming team now has a well established tradition of taking a group selfie on the moving sidewalk at DFW airport. How that last bit is relevant, I'm not really sure, but it's a fun tidbit.
The Men's side of swimming is not competing, but you can see them in action. Specifically you can see them in action tonight at Cardinal Arena. You didn't know Cardinal Arena had a pool? Well, you're right, it doesn't. The team will be in attendance for the Clemson Volleyball match. The Men's Swimming team always brings a raucous attitude and atmosphere to the volleyball matches they attend, and for those of you of gender and sexual orientations for which this is a draw....well, this is a family friendly site, so we'll just say these young men are in very good shape and you'll get to confirm that with your own eyes if you are in attendance.
Volleyball is playing two matches this weekend, the first is the aforementioned Swimmers-In-Attendance Clemson match this evening with a 7pm start. Also in action Sunday, this one with a bit of a later start than usual, getting underway at 3pm against Georgia Tech. With the way UofL Volleyball has been playing of late, neither of these two teams should provide any great deal of threat, but last week's matches shouldn't have been much of a threat either and we dropped a set to both Virginia and Virginia Tech. The team needs to come out energized and ready to play.
So there's your weekend planning information. You can pick your poison if you're in town tonight, Men's Tennis at Bass-Rudd, Soccer overload at Lynn, men's and women's hoops downtown or Volleyball with a dose of swimming at Cardinal Arena
Have fun!

Winner winner chicken dinner.
DeleteJC survived J and C. My first time in the studio with Jared and I enjoyed it. Case did a great job on running things and making sure we covered everything and stayed on time.
ReplyDeletePS - the football game is on WAVE 3 broadcast tv with a pre show starting at 11 am. Everyone can join that in progress at after the radio show ;)
