Cards Look to Earn 1,000th Program Win
Bringing back photos from the 2023 ACC Tournament
Sitting at 999 wins in program history, Louisville women's basketball can win their 1,000th game against Duke tonight. The two ACC foes will tip off at the KFC Yum! Center tonight at 8:00pm and will be aired on ACC Network.
Louisville (12-2) enters the game ranked 17th in the AP Poll and 16th in the Coaches Poll. Duke (9-4) has not seen the top 25 on the AP Poll and was last ranked in the Coaches Poll in week two.
Duke's losses have come in pairs. The Blue Devils fell to Davidson and Stanford in back-to-back games in mid-November and then began December with losses to South Carolina and Clemson. They have since won four straight and are fresh off a five-point win against Boston College on New Year's Eve.
One of the biggest strengths for Duke is their blocking, where they average 7.2 blocks per game, ranking third nationally. They average a little over 74 points per game, led by Taina Mair (11.8 ppg) and Reigan Richardson (11.4 ppg). They are two of the four Blue Devils players to average scoring in double figures. Duke is a strong three-point shooting team at a .370 percentage.
Louisville and Duke began 2023 with a game on New Year's Day in Durham where the Blue Devils got the 63-56 win. The Cards still hold the overall advantage 7-4.
Daryl and I will be on the court for the game as Paulie continues his recovery. Paul's recovery continues to go well, just slowly. He was still being monitored at the hospital when I spoke with he and Sonya Tuesday evening. He'll be back on the court covering games before you know it!
Happy Thursday and Go Cards!
Jared
