Women's Soccer falls to NKU 1-0 in season exhibition opener --Thursday Cardinal Couple

WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS EXHIBITION TO NKU 1-0

The UofL Women's Soccer team fell to Northern Kentucky University 1-0 Wednesday night on the NKU campus.

Reports from the NKU website indicate that the Norse scored the lone goal of the match at the 5:57 mark of the first period on a shot from far left wing to the back right corner by Jessica Frey with assists from Sami Rutowski and Macy Hamblin.

An un-auspicious start to the UofL season where the Cards attempted four shots on goal in the three 30-minute periods. Three Louisville goalkeepers split the time in net...Paige Brown getting the start...Taylor Bucklin and Victoria Gabor also seeing 30 minutes each between the poles. Freshman Gabrielle Vincent put in 76 minutes and attempted two shots and frosh Tina Marlot from Slovenia had three shots in 76 minutes.

Louisville had Ingrid Katrine Bjerke, Hannah Konermann and Alison Price on field for the entire 90 minutes. Casey Whitfield saw 47 minutes of playing time and Bella Habuda saw 49 minutes on the pitch.

We've also been informed that the numbers might be a bit off since the players weren't wearing numbers on their jerseys for the exhibition.

Exhibition situation where Louisville played all their players on the roster. Should we be worried about a exhibition loss?

After all, the highly heralded UofL men's basketball team lost twice in both nights so far to Puerto Rico in exhibition play...

Exhibition games serve a useful purpose in allowing the coaches and players a chance to compete and then work on what did and didn't work. The Kickin' Cards will host IU for another exhibition match this Sunday and admission is free.

We'll get more reactions on the contest at the Tri-Sport Fall Women's Media Day that will commence today at noon at the Lynn.
