6'2" AQUIRA DeCOSTA A PRIORITY FOR CARDS
2018 Louisville women's basketball prospect Aquira DeCosta, a 6'2" wing out of Sacramento, CA will be hitting the Cardinal campus for a visit this weekend. Aquira is expected to visit Fri-Sun and will attend the Louisville vs. Clemson football game during her visit.
DeCosta is on just about everyone's top five list for 2018 and has listed Southern Cal, South Carolina, Tennessee, Baylor and Louisville (in no particular order) as her final schools to consider. The Cards are expected to add one more player to the 2018 verbal commit list...a list that already included Mercer County, KY standout Seygan Robins, highly ranked Ashland, KY guard Mykasa Robinson and Louisville Butler post Molly Lockhart.
How big a "get" is DeCosta potentially for the Cards? I spoke with a Cardinal WBB "person-in-the-know" about the St. Mary's (CA) senior:
"I love her physicality and the way she crashes the boards. She really goes to the glass with a lot of energy and she also a very quick leaper. When you look ahead to who Louisville expects to have on the roster in 2018, she fits really well with this group. This is already a very talented group and she would be a great addition to it. I'm excited about her visit to campus, hoping that she has a really good time and joins an already-outstanding group of players as a Cardinal."
Aquira is the #1 ranked wing in the ESPNW rankings and #4 overall in the 2018 class...so getting her would be a great way to close the 2018 verbals and give the Cards a very talented and solid performer in the ranks.
We know that she visited Southern California last weekend with her senior teammate Neenah Young.
Also coming the campus on unofficial visits this weekend are the other three 2018 commits listed above.
I get asked from time to time if following these prospects on Twitter and liking some of their posts helps in recruiting. I'll respond with this. If it's positive and encouraging tweeting by you that doesn't get too crazy or negative toward other schools...I say go for it. In case you are into tweeting or following tweets...here are the (4) 2018 prospects:
@d1_shiftteam = Aquira DeCosta
@seygan4 = Seygan Robins
@mykasa_baller23 = Mykasa Robinson
@mollylockhartt = Molly Lockhart
We hope Aquira has a great time during her visit, enjoys meeting her potential teammates and decides that Louisville is the place to be for continuing her collegiate student/athlete pursuits.

WOMEN'S GOLF SETS RECORD IN MINNESOTA
We figured the 2017-18 "Chip and Putt" Cards might be pretty special with Lauren Hartlage, Molly Skapic, Jacqueline Twitty, Olivia Cason, Delaney Shah and Meghan Nay returning. We thought that transfer Kristin Engle would add to that excellence and freshman Margot Bechaderque, Jordan Susce and Linda Trockel could be competitive in trying to earn a spot on those starting five-somes. It looks like we were right on the money with our thoughts.
Louisville women's golf set a school record with a record 12 under par in the second day of the Minnesota Invitational. This is Louisville's opening match of the fall season and the Cards are in third place with a two-day total of 564 behind Michigan State (557) and USC (558). The 276 fired by Louisville was the best round of the day at the Prestwick Gold Club in Woodbury, Mn.
Leading the Cards charge has been Hartlage, who is tied for third going in to the final day. She's had two sub 70 rounds (68,69) on the par 72 links. Skapic is tied for 10th. and Twitty and Engle are tied for 39th.
Best of luck to Courtney Trimble's squad as they go into the final day of action!

Go CARDS and beat Clemson. And everyone else this weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe Deb Factor
Hi, CC!
ReplyDeleteWell it looks like it is going to be a big time up in your fair city this weekend when my Clemson Tigers come up for football. I wish I was making the trip but did the Auburn game last weekend and just too old and grumpy I guess to go to this one. I have seen the last three of these including the Louisville one two years ago (thanks again for the great tailgate hospitality, Paulie!) but will view this one on TV.
I think Clemson gets a "W" over you again for these three reasons:
1) Our defense is all that and contained a very good Auburn offense. I can't see the Cards getting but 2 or 3 TD's in the game.
2) Our offense should have a field day against Louisville's defense. You haven't stopped Purdue or North Carolina very well and I assure you that we are a better team offensively than either of those two.
3) Lamar is great! No doubt about it but I don't think he can beat us on his own. I think we contain everyone else on offense and let Lamar get his. I don't think the Cards have a good enough running game to catch us off guard and expect we'll have Lamar running for his life back there when he goes to pass.
JMO, of course. I hope it's a good, exciting and well-played game. I'll go with 28-17 Tigers.

Keep 'em coming, folks. I have already stated on radio I see a 53-50 Cardinal win. Thanks for checking in, Arthur!
DeletePaulie
Good luck with that Arthur. Lamar could go for 700 total if left unchecked. Put me down for 28-24 Cards, Paulie.
DeleteCurtis "What was that? Just Lamar running by us!!!" Franklin
Gimmie Cards 33-28 Paulie.
Delete-- The Real Joe Hill --
I got 28-17 Clemson Paulie. I hope we can stay that close to them.
ReplyDeleteBlue Lou
Aw heck Paulie. I saww Arthur has my score. I change mine to 24-17 Clemson
DeleteBlue Lou
Even with Jaire Alexander back, this is a high scoring affair. Clemson's defense is great, and their offense has a lot of potential. Lamar Jackson was a wonder last year and he seems (so far) to be better this year. I think the homefield advantage, like last year, is the difference maker in this game.
ReplyDeleteAnother high scoring affair.
38-35 Cards
Can I just enter a score and not pick a team?
ReplyDeleteMatthew Mitchell for Governor
DENIED! That would give you an unfair advantage of having two chances to win. You gotta give us a team, guv.

Ok, Nick...you're starting to creep me out a little bit here....Steady.
DeletePaulie
Just playin' Paulie. U know I'm a one woman man.
DeleteNick O.
The back-and-forth has been amusing....thanks for a laugh on a somewhat tough day.
ReplyDeleteOn a serious note, I don't understand the rationale for a fan of any program interacting with a recruit on social media. "Following"...sure. But tweeting at a recruit, and whatever else is out there in the social media world (I'm an old guy with just a passing knowledge of technology)....what in the world can that accomplish? I can't believe that a high school kid will make his or her decision about a school based on the number of tweets or likes or whatever. And Joe Fan surely can't tell her or him anything about a program that she or he doesn't already know.
A lot of good points here...Mike. We like to follow and recognize achievements that players have. Far be it from us to offer advice. Lots of coaches follow, the players like that someone is tweeting about them and Seygan, Molly and Aquira all "liked" and retweeted our original tweet about the article.
DeleteAs it is, though...there are some fans who feel it necessary to interact. I can imagine how that goes...player thinking to themselves...that old bald guy is actually giving me advice on how wonderful life is at State U? Seriously? How does he know what I'm looking for or what.
And, UK fans are, by far...the worst at it...IMHO.
Paulie
Had to get that UK dig in, eh Paulie? Are you coming up to Lexington to see your little orphaned birdies get trounced by UK Volleyball? If so, maybe I'll bring a pie and toss it at your face after U wins in three sets. Ha! Ha! Or are you sending ol' Streetwise up to lead cheers instead?
DeleteMatthew Mitchell For Governor
Chances are we'll both be there and it might just be worth it to see how you're going to smuggle a creme pie into Memorial Barnyard. Are you going to tell security you're intending on feeding the goats and sheep in there?

DeCosta could be huge for Louisville but there are some awfully great teams on her list and you have to wonder just how close her connection is with her teammate Young and will they want to play together in college?
ReplyDeleteStill I hope she has a great visit and leaves thinking this is where she needs to be.
Great for golf. How did they finish up in Minnesota?
Agreed on DeCosta. Golf finished tied for fifth with their second best ever tournament finish in history. Nine under. That's some great golf!

41-31 Louisville. Reggie throws at least one in a trick play. Jaire plays. We have at least 1 70+ yard kick off/punt returns. Jonathan Greenard has a breakout game with multiple sacks/tackles for loss. The Bird Lady won't sleep until Sunday afternoon from all the coffee she consumes (I drink coffee the way most tailgaters drink beer)
ReplyDeleteWow. An impressive analysis/prediction Julie! As always, when we have an open seat for radio, you're in. Full house this week.
