Monday Cardinal Couple -- Brooks lists Louisville in Top 5

MONDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

- Troyian Brooks names Louisville to her final five

Every couple of days or so...it seems another talented player in the 2015 girls basketball elite has named Louisville in their top five or top ten list.

Add the name Troyian Brooks to the list of stars that are looking at Louisville as a possible destination to continue their academic and athletic pursuits. This Helen Cox H.S. star from New Orleans can go as a foward or wing.

Don't go rushing off to look at her junior year stats, though:

Troyian Brooks, a highly recruited junior, was suspended by head coach Weary-Cox for violation of team rules the first semester and missed the second semester because of academic reasons.

Her list is impressive and includes a couple of schools that would bring her into the KFC YUM! Center even if she doesn't end up here.

6'2 W/F Troyian Brooks has a list of five. West Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky, North Carolina & Texas Tech.

The summer club tournaments are probably more important in getting a player recognition that their high schools careers.

So...how are her skills? Walz will have more wings on campus than your local KFC Restaurant outlet in 2015. Here's what she showed at a recent skills camp:

6'2" Troyian Brooks, a New Orleans native, literally shined bright all day. The lefty has long arms and is very long athletically with a nice array of skill sets. She runs the floor extremely well and pushes the ball on the dribble. She finishes well in the paint and has a smooth stroke that extends out to the three-point range. Brooks is adept at attacking off the dribble and finishing in the paint. She has good handles, is a good on-ball defender, rebounds well and is a high energy player with great hops. Her game and future are extremely bright and she's a player definitely worth keeping your eyes on.

  1. Don't believe I would recruit this player from a coaches perspective.

  2. Uh...no thanks. We are in the top 5 for several top 60 players. Why is this player being featured? Just curious.

    1. Her club team numbers are impressive and wayward juniors somtimes turn out to be seniors who "get it"...

  3. I'd agree with the prior comments. She looks like a baller but doesn't seem to fit the U of L program profile.

  4. Dropping in to be a voice of reason for a moment.

Just because a prospect lists a school as one of their finalists, does not mean the school has offered them a position or a scholarship. I do not know any specifics around Ms. Brooks. Regardless of who she has offers from or not, a coaching staff can not comment on a recruit until they have signed their letter of intent. (this can not happen until Nov. of their senior year at the earliest). So, what is to stop any recruit of saying who their top schools are, whether or not they have an offer?
The coaching staff can not comment on it. There are some in basketball circles that say recruits may list a high caliber school to make them look better. I am not saying this is the case with Ms. Brooks, but what I am saying is there is no way to know if she has an offer from Louisville.

That being said there is a lot of information out there from recruiting and evaluation services that are putting out information that I due put stock in.
There are currently 5 outstanding/elite 2015 recruits, that I know of, that has Louisville on their short list of schools. I'm focusing my positive energy on those kids. For those interested, the recruits are:
Arike Ogunbowale-from Wisconsin, top 20 recruit (we are in her top 5)
Asia Durr, from Georiga, #2 player in the country (again, top 5)
Samantha Fuehring, out of New Jersey, we are in her Top 7-had a great July recruiting period, her stock is rising (plays with the same AAU club that current freshman Myisha Hines-Allen played for).
Erin DeGrate, out of Waco, TX , we are on her list of 7. Another outstanding prospect whose stock is rising after a fantastic July of AAU ball.
Angela Salvadore- from Spain. This young woman was the MVP of the U17 Championship tournament. The US won the gold, only by 2 points (Asia Durr scored the winning bucket). Salvadore scored 40 points in that contest.

All of that is to say there is a LOT of elite talent looking at the 'Ville. The coaching staff has apparently been very, very busy. Based on this list of elite talent, I trust they are making good decisions regarding recruiting.

What this means for Brooks, I can not say. I would not worry too much about it though. There are a lot of top kids knocking on Louisville's door.

    1. That's why she had a role here as our recruiting guru and why she's hopefully considering coming back this fall to continue in that role here.

Jenny's points are dead on and accurate. The Cards have two pretty decent guards verballed for 2015 and there are a lot of recruits out that would definitely enjoy playing in front of 10,000 each night in the KFC YUM!
