SATURDAY CARDINAL COUPLE PRESENTS:

-Field hockey faces Nova today

-Big day today at Keeneland

Amber Thomas, pictured above, and her UofL Field Hockey teammates gets it started today in the Trager with a 1 p.m. match against Villanova. Louisville (9-5, 3-1) also finishes the regular season home stand Sunday with Iowa invading. The Field Hockey team would appreciate your attendance and support for both of these big matches. Bring a canned good on Sunday and help Pam Bustin's squad feed the needy for Thanksgiving. If you can't make the game, WHAS 11 TV will televise the Sunday faceoff.

Rebecca Shine took down Murray State's Ashley Canty 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the round of 16 in the Ohio Valley Regionals Tennis Championships in Knoxville, TN. She's joined there by teammate Kaysara Mandry, who knocked off Xavier's Andrea Wolf 6-3, 6-3. Sarah Miller lost a tough match to East Tennessee's Kelly Holtzhausen 6-3, 6-2.

One Cardinal doubles team advanced to the quarterfinals. Shine and Miller volleyed past Courtney Collins and Stefanie Mikesz 8-5. Mandry and Gabrielle Duncan were eliminated 8-2 in their doubles match against Vandy.

It'll be a net scorching afternoon in Cardinal Arena today. The Cincinnati Bearcats serve it up against Leonid Yelin's Volleyball Cards at 2 p.m. UC comes in looking for revenge after Louisville defeated them last year in the BIG EAST Championship match. The Cards have been riding the strong spike of Emily Juhl lately and this one will be a very exciting affair.

Cardinal Arena is the perfect place for Volleyball and if you haven't been to a match...you need to get over there and catch this rivalry game. Tough afternoon here for CARDINAL COUPLE...a quick appearance over at Trager and then to the wide net over at the Arena.

Charlie Strong's football Cards jumped out to a 24-14 second quarter lead over rival Cincinnati but could only muster 3 points the rest of the way and fell to the Bearcats 35-27. UC QB Zach Collaros threw for 5 touchdowns and baffled the Cards defense with his ability to scramble, find receivers on the fly and tuck it and go when the coverage was there. A big time game from UofL running back Bilal Powell. The senior shredded the Bearcats for 209 rushing yards and also grabbed a couple of Adam Froman passes. Tough day for Cards placekicker Chris Philpott who pushed a couple of attempts wide left.

Louisville took the Bearcats to the wire...missing out on a couple of late endzone pass attempts in the 4th quarter. We have to call out Cardinal Sports Report poobah Howie Lindsay, though...for wearing a blue shirt on the sidelines while covering the game. C'mon Howie...I would have lent you a Cardinal hoodie or even a red ball cap. 15 yard penalty on the "Howster" for illegal procedure.

Big day at Keeneland today with the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup. Evening Jewel will try to hold off 7 foes in the 1-1/8 th. race on the Keeneland Turf. WE'RE big fans of Harmonius in this one...She's lightly raced, looking better each time she runs and west coast superstar Joel Rosario rides for trainer John Sherreffs today. You know John...he's got another horse that isn't too bad called Zenyatta.

Good news from my buddy Keith Beisler last night. He bought our old pal EECCHHOO and retired him to his farm. EECCHHOO was a give it all you got claimer that travelled the Kentucky and Indiana circuits for 7 years and never ran a bad race until recently. Keith was EECCHOO's original owner and lost him several years back when he was claimed out of a race. Beisler stepped up and made the purchase after realizing that the current trainer and owner were still going to try and race the worn out runner. Enjoy the apples, straw and sunny cool mornings on the Beisler farm, my friend. We love you and appreciate all the times you gave us reasons to cheer. You deserve the rest and out of all the thoroughbreds we've had the pleasure of knowing...you were, and still are, my favorite.
