Guess who's coming to Louisville?
OREGON STANDOUT GUARD SHONI SCHIMMEL HEADED TO LOUSIVILLE.
Jeff Walz has done it again.
Schimmel was the last unsigned top ten high school player in the class of 2010. Rumors had been flying that she was going to sign at any time..but where was the main question?
It's Louisville.
Schimmel will immediately help a Cardinal backcourt that was woefully understaffed last season. Her game is exciting, awesome and skilled. She shoots, distributes and handles the ball at a much higher level skill set of your typical incoming college women's basketball freshman. Some players just have a natural born knack for the game. Schimmel is one of these. They don't call her 'Sho'time for nothing.
Schimmel was the subject of debate on several women's basketball blogs. Rumors of family indecision on where she should attend were reported and she didn't announce her decision during the spring signing dates...leading to speculation that Pac-10 schools Stanford and Oregon had risen on her selection chart and made her decide to delay her announcement.
Schimmel joins a highly ranked 2010 UofL womens' basketball recruiting class that includes Charmaine Tay, Shawnta' Dyer, Polly Harrington, Antonita Slaughter and Sherrone Vails. Transfer from Vandy Tia Gibbs will be elgible this year also. Transfer Cierra Warren from North Carolina is the sixth newest Cardinal and will join the team for the 2010-11 season.
Tay is another highly ranked guard that Walz has in the stable. Her point guard skills are among the best in the nation and she led Bloomfield Tech (NJ) deep into the state finals in 2010.
Shoni wowed fans in the Pacific Northwest for four years in high school with her flashy showmanship on the hardwood. Sold out crowds at home and on the road greeted her wherever she went. Her younger sister Jude will be a senior this year and many believe that she is leaning toward playing college ball with her sister.
Her father and assistant high school coach Rick Schimmel believes that Shoni's game will only improve in college...since the double and triple teams she's faced the last several years will be less frequent..given the talent level in college.
Get ready, Louisville. The 'Sho' is headed to town and it's going to be a good performance

What are we looking at roster wise next season. Thanks and great website.
ReplyDeleteWe hope to have Coach Walz give us a early preview of the Lady Cards down the road. Right now, he can't watch them practice.
ReplyDeleteWe here at CARDINAL COUPLE see a deep and talented team in the new arena this fall. The battles for the guard positions ought to be really interesting...with Dez Byrd, Becky Burke, Shoni Schimmel, Charmaine Tay, Nikki Burton, Tia Gibbs, Rachel Story, LaToya Johnson and possibly Shelby Harper in the competition.
Depth...a wonderful thing.
