Sydney Zambrotta says "Yes" to Louisville WBB -- Tuesday Cardinal Couple

CHRIST THE KING SENIOR COMMITS TO UOFL

We told you a few weeks back to get to know the name Sydney Zambrotta if you are a UofL women's basketball fan. We hope you were listening...

Syd has become the second 2016 commit for Jeff Walz's WBB squad. The prolific 5'9" guard picked the Cards over Minnesota, Miami, Pittsburgh and South Carolina. After visits to the Gophers and Canes...she hit Louisville and the search was over. She saw and fell in love with the campus and her future teammates.

The Cardinal staff fell in love with her early on and even more so over the summer during the AAU circuit playing for team New Heights. She had been strongly fascinated with the Cards as well...for several years.

Syd is a lefty who is drawing some comparisons to former Card guard Shoni Schimmel in regards to her scoring prowess and flamboyant style of play. She popped for 63 points in a game as an eighth-grader.

She was spotted in a golf cart with Samantha Williams on campus by my illustrious co-host Jeff "Worldwide" McAdams on Sunday as he was headed to Field Hockey. I got the message from him and thought..."Hey, that's good! She's still here on a Sunday afternoon."

Christ the King has turned out a few pretty fair hoopsters in the girls high school side. The names Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Chamique Holdsclaw and Bria Smith may be familiar to UofL WBB (or any WBB) fans.

The Top-50 prospect will add depth and skill to a Cards guards contingent that is already looking very solid.

Welcome to the "Ville", Syd!

  1. Two best recruiting schools for 2016 so far are Maryland (4 in top 40) and Notre Dame with 2 in the top 10.

    1. In some aspects...the start of this 2016 recruiting class reminds me...so far... of the 2012 recruiting class for UofL which consisted of Cortnee Walton and Megan Deines. Neither were top 25 picks and the Cards had a pretty substantial base of players already on the roster.

The difference being between then and now is that Walz will look to add a few more to the class of 2016. There are some huge names out there that have scheduled visits upcoming to Louisville.

it's way too early to tell what specific needs that the Cards will have in positional recruiting needs for next year and beyond...but, for now...the guards look very strong and deep. Moore on the wing looks very secure and between Walton and Hines-Allen...the paint presence looks like the one area where there could be some question marks. How much will DeGrate and Fuehring contribute as freshmen? Will the Cards use Syd the Kid inside a lot this year? Will Walz go after and get another "big" or two?

Remember that no one graduates at the end of the 2015-16 season...so there are no real immediate needs to replenish.

Maryland certainly needs a good recruiting class with some major defections. Notre Dame? I expect them to be in the top 10 in recruiting every year as long as Miss Muffet is crouched on the sidelines.
