Volleyball Rankings/Standings -- TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Volleyball News

For Louisville volleyball, there was plenty of good news. Between another ACC individual award to moving up in the rankings, Dani Busboom Kelly and Co are sure to be pleased.

The latest AVCA rankings were released and Louisville moved up a spot to #4. The top four seeds in the NCAA Tournament are automatically eligible to host the first four rounds of the tournament. The idea of the Cards playing at the KFC Yum! Center sounds a lot more comforting than sending them on the road to a hostile environment.

Nebraska continues to hold steady at the top spot. Stanford, who was fourth last week, jumped up a couple spots to #2. Wisconsin fell one spot to #3. Texas, who lost their fourth match this season, fell down to #5. Oregon, Pitt, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Arkansas round out the top 10. The Cards have wins against #11 Washington State, #12 Kentucky, #14 Penn State, #19 Dayton, and #25 Florida State.

Louisville also is still sitting atop the ACC standings with a 14-2 record. Florida State is also at 14-2, whom the Cards beat in their lone match-up earlier this season. Pitt is half a game back at 13-2. UofL swept them at home earlier this season but visit the Petersen Events Center on Saturday. With their only conference games remaining coming against Notre Dame and North Carolina, the Seminoles could sneak into the top spot in the ACC due to the rest of the field's schedule.

Cara Cresse was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Week. She earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week back on October 16, making her the only player in the conference to have earned both honors this season. She filled up the stat sheet over the weekend with three blocks against Duke and eight against North Carolina. She averaged 3.92 kills per set including 17 in the match against the Tar Heels. She hit .667 on Sunday and .538 on Friday. Her .453 hitting percentage this season ranks second in the country.

Louisville is back in action on Saturday at 1:00 pm against Pitt. They close the season at home next Wednesday evening against Georgia Tech.

Happy Tuesday and Go Cards!

  1. Destiny in our OWN hands, win out, we win the ACC championship, correct?

  2. Cards have such strong front line firepower. I think they go one game further than last year and get the title. It's DeBeer and Aiko's team and they're two of the best in the college game. Credit the "guy" on the sidelines, too. Dan Meske. He is continuosly busy "coaching them up" on the sidelines.
