Cards St. Louis senior ACC defensive player of the week in Field Hockey

Louisville's Field Hockey defense is a whole team effort and is a very efficient one. The 9-1 Cards have allowed just eight goals on the season and we don't need a math major to tell us that the number equates out to less than a goal a game. And, not many teams can win a game with that number, right?  Louisville has three shut-outs on the season, has allowed 1 goal in six of their contests and the Cards have allowed only two goals once, in the Cards lone loss (to UNC).

Mia Duchars has been an integral part of that stone wall sitting down there in Trager Stadium and even gets into the scoring act from time to time. Virginia got off just five shots in 60 minutes in Louisville's last win, a 2-0 Cardinals triumph, and Duchars was also part of the defense that blanked Miami (OH) earlier in the week.. She even had an assist in one of the penalty corners scores against UVA.

I missed attending the Virginia game so didn't really have a say in who our illustrious photographer Jared Anderson interviewed after the match, but I was hoping he might get Duchars in the mix...she's no stranger to Cardinal Couple Interviews. Minna Tremonti and Izzy Bianco certainly weren't bad choices at all, I probably would have tried to sneak Mia in there as well. 

The Cards are #5 in the NFHCA poll this week, UNC is #1, Northwestern (although Louisville beat early in the season) is #2, Iowa #3 and Duke #4. Six of the seven ACC schools that play Field Hockey are in the nation's top 20. The Cards get the seventh school (Wake Forest) in Trager Friday. It's not a season the Demon Deacons have had a lot of luck in this year, but, all ACC schools are dangerous. 

Duchars has an active media life on Instagram, and I didn't need to go any further to see she's in love with the campus, her team and loves the game of Field Hockey, as well. 

Let's hope Mia and her flock of Birds can continue the job well done this weekend. 

WBB LUNCHEON

The 2023 WBB Tip-Off Luncheon will be Monday, Oct 23rd. this year and returns to the Grand Ballroom of The Galt House East. Always a good time, the doors open at 11:30 and the luncheon begins at noon. 

A lot of new faces this year on Walz's squad (seven new players) so we'll be doing a lot of "I think that's..." speculation as the girls arrive and are seated.
