SOFTBALL CARDS 14-6 HEADING INTO ACC PLAY
We've all been a little "basketball crazy" around here at the ol' Cardinal Couple lately, but with the ACC WBB Tournament ended and the NCAA Tournament a few days away, I figured today would be a good day to catch up with what's happening with Holly Aprile's bat-swingers over at Ulmer
The Cards are 4-2 at home, 1-1 at opponents' ballparks and 9-3 at neutral spots. With a record of 14-6 overall.
Louisville starts their ACC play this weekend with a trip to Duke.
The Cards have used six pitchers in their 20 games...Taylor Roby has a record of 6-2 and so does Allyssa Zabala. Sam Booe and Taja Felder are 1-0 each and Gaby Holloway and Cassie Grizzard are 0-1.
On the hitting side of things, sophomore Korbe Otis leads the way with a 429 average. Freshman catcher Sarah Gordon bats .379, grad student Taylor Roby is at .339, and seniors Elena Ornelas (.323) and Daisy Hess (.269) round out the top five hitters,
The Cards have slugged 10 home runs this season, Taylor Roby tops with five and Korbe Otis has three.
The Cards are 1-1 against SEC competition, 3-4 against Big 10 schools and 3-1 against other schools in Kentucky.
Looking at the Cards out in the field, you'll usually see either Hannah File or Maddi Grant at first base, Easton Lotus at second base , Daisy Hess at short and Ally Alexander at third base. Paige Geraghty holds down lefy field, Korbe Otis patrols center field and Vanessa Miller can be seen in right field. Sarah Gordon gets catcher duties, as a rule. Makayla Hurst and Elena Ornelas also see infield time.
Louisville bats .305 overall and has held their opponents to .222 and there have only been three home runs hit against Cardinals pitching this season. They have 151 hits against opponents' pitchers, while allowing just 108.
It should be a fun ACC season and the Cardinal Couple crew hopes to attend a lot of the home games the rest of the year. We hope to see you out there ! Admission is free to Ulmer Stadium and parking is available in the SAC Parking Garage on Floyd.

The non-conference record and stats look pretty impressive. Where were the Cards SB placed in pre-season rankings in-conference?

Cards Softball was picked to finish seventh out of the 13 teams that participate in ACC Softball. Miami and Wake Forest do not field teams.

Cards Softball finally had some support for Roby in the circle and at the plate. SEC still rules softball in this area

I think we finish top 5 in the ACC, Zabala is a VERY nice addition 👍
