Softball Releases Fall Schedule
Other than playing inter-squad scrimmages it has been a few years since we have seen Louisville softball face true opponents in a fall schedule. It appears Holly Aprile wants to change that. Their fall schedule was released yesterday.
On Sunday, Sept. 16, the Cards will travel to Richmond to face Eastern Kentucky in a double-header. Then they will head up to Bloomington to take on Indiana in a double-header on Sunday, Sept. 30.
The Cards will also host a few games at Ulmer so fans can get a sneak peek at what's to come. Morehead State will come to town on Sunday, Oct. 7 for a double-header. They'll take on Kentucky and Western Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Playing other Division 1 opponents will give Coach Aprile a chance to see what her team can do before the true season starts in February.
The only roster changes we currently know of include Sydney Warriner transferring and Catie Barber deciding that her softball career has come to a close.
Mollie Rouse Back at UofL
After earning a bronze medal with the English National Team at the FIFA U20 World Cup, Mollie Rouse is back in the states. Sadly, her bronze medal was not on display, but I'm sure we will see it at some point this season.
It is currently unknown if Rouse will play Friday against Kentucky and if she does, how much time she will see. Rouse has not had the off-season and early season to practice with UofL and has not had a chance to familiarize herself with the game-plan (it's more than just 'win'). Fortunately, having played all summer and against some of the best players her age internationally, she shouldn't miss a step when she's ready for action.
Other News and Notes
-This is a reminder that the women's soccer match on Friday is early- 5:30 p.m. They will face Kentucky and is a part the women and men's teams double-header. The men will face St. Louis following the conclusion of the women's match. Tickets are a 2-for-1 deal.
-Men's Soccer defeated Georgia State last night 1-0 to improve to 2-0 on the year. They join women's soccer (4-0) and volleyball (3-0) in the undefeated column. Field hockey is currently 1-1, winning on the road and losing at home.
-Men's Tennis release their fall schedule. You can catch Coach Rex Ecarma and the men's team at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center from Oct. 19-21 when they host the Louisville Invitational.
What Day Is It
Although you are more than welcome to help another on any given day today is Willing-To-Lend-A-Hand Wednesday. You can't go wrong helping others!
According to Englishman Edmond Hoyle it is According to Hoyle Day. For you food lovers, it is More Herbs Less Salt Day, Lemon Juice Day, Chop Suey Day, and Swiss Wine Growers Day. I wouldn't mix the four of them though, that sounds gross.
Happy Wednesday and Go Cards!

Interesting news from the NBA. Paulie and I exchanged a nice e-mail today and he informed me of this, so I did a little more research:
ReplyDeleteThe Sacramento Kings announced today additions and promotions within the team’s basketball operations department.
The new additions include Teena Murray as Senior Director of Athlete Health and Performance, where she will lead the Kings sports medicine, athletic training and strength and conditioning disciplines
Murray arrives in Sacramento after spending the previous 14 years as the Director of Sports Performance at the University of Louisville, where she built a high-performance model spanning 21 sports and served as head performance coach for the women's basketball and softball teams, both perennial NCAA Tournament squads. In addition, she served as an adjunct faculty member in the graduate program of Exercise Science and has published research papers in the areas of functional movement and physiological profiling.
First Katie George to the Bucks and now Murray to the Kings.
Curtis "Where have all the women gone?" Franklin
Didn’t see that until after I posted this morning and left for work but definitely interesting! I’m sure Teena Murray will excel in Sacramento!
DeleteTeena Murray did a lot of great things for Cardinal Athletics here in her time. She will be missed. The fall softball is welcome news! Mollie Rouse will eventually be a main cog in the WSOC lineup, I expect she might see some significant playing time against "dem Kats" who are 3-1 with wins over SIU, Ark. Little Rock and Morehead and a loss to Wisconsin (in Lexington).

In WNBA, no Myisha minutes last night in the loss to the Dream. Della Donne twisted a knee in the second half and did not return...
ReplyDeletePaulie
Ugh. That Elena Della Donne injury was pretty gruesome to watch. I'd be surprised if she plays again this year. Can't understand why the Mystics didn't go to Myisha with four minutes left after it happened.
DeleteMollie Rouse, welcome back!
I'll be interested to see if Rouse gets many minutes against UK. So far, the Cats women's soccer has struggled but got by a few palookas and fallen to a better-than-average Big Ten squad.
Cards go to 5-0.

Truth be told, I prefer chow mein to chop suey. My first experience with Chinese food came when I was an undergrad at Memphis. A few people in the dorm were going out for Chinese and invited me. One of them knew I liked spaghetti and suggested I try chow mein because it had noodles instead of rice. So I ordered the beef chow mein and loved it.
ReplyDeleteThese days, I gravitate more toward egg drop soup and egg foo yong.
I talked to Dave O last night and we won't be accompanying them to Gainesville for Volleyball on Sunday after watching the UofL football game in Orlando on Saturday. A friend is having a BBQ back in Naples on Sunday and his are pretty legendary.
Paulie, will Saturday's Cardinal Couple Radio Show pre-cover any football at all? We are driving up to Orlando Saturday morning and thought I would listen in on the WCHQ app. (It's so easy to download even Joe Hill can do it!)
And, I still can't believe that you're not coming down to Florida to watch it. Slowing down, old man?
Go Cards!
-- The Real Joe Hill --
We will have Mike Gilpatrick and Daryl Foust in studio with us Saturday and we'll rely on their football knowledge to give us a preview of the event and dialouge/analysis. Our main focus, as always, will be on women's athletics at UofL and we'll have Volleyball and WSOC to recap...but, yes...we'll look at the Birds vs. Elephants football game.
DeleteNo road trip to Orlando for this guy for football. Not slowing down, just going with priorities and website duties. Sonya and I will watch the contest via TV with a few friends. Fan only status and viewing interest, I'll try not to analyze or critique.
I hope we win. I'll be cheering for us.
Paulie
For our football fans...this from the enterprising lads over at House of Cards.
