                     IN MEMORANDUM

We are saddened by the passing away of Sonja's mother Amy Newby early morning Dec. 21st. Amy fought bravely against her pulmonary fibrosis and will be greatly missed.

She asked me to read her this poem a few days ago. She wanted Dylan Thomas' works for Christmas.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my mother, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light

  9. Sonja and Paulie I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Amy. I started following your website back in 2010 and rarely miss a day. You are, in a sense, almost like family to me because of the heartfelt and caring articles you and your crew turn out. I remember the early days when Sonja was writing and I am glad to have been able to meet the both of you (remember Lexington back in 2011?)

I, too, have suffered family loss. A wife, two sons and I realize how hard a time this is for you and yours. My thoughts are with you and try to remember the good times.

  13. We extend our sympathies and condolences about Sonja's mom. Thank you for being a great voice for women's sports and being "real" in a journalism world that can be so false.
