Voelmle All-American
Two weeks ago, we brought news of, among others, Alyssa Voelmle gaining NCAA All-Region honors. Now the Hershey PA has picked up the honor at the next level, All-American, as awarded by the NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association).
Voelmle finished her career with the Cardinals in the loss in the NCAA tournament to the Stanford Cardinal as a Senior. Meanwhile, UConn won the tournament with a victory over Syracuse in the finals to repeat as NCAA Field Hockey Champions.
We'll be looking forward to fall to see Justine Sowry's next squad advance Louisville Field Hockey even further than the excellent season they had this year.
Hines-Allen picks up a Weekly Honor
Of course, we know of the excellent play by all four of the active freshmen on our basketball squad, but its nice to know that the rest of the conference is seeing it as well. Hines-Allen's play particularly stood out this week
Myisha averaged 18.3 points over the 3 game stretch for this honor (WKU, Lafayette, and Valpo games) for a 71% shooting average. She also protected the ball well, only committing two turnovers in the same three game stretch.
I expect this to be the first of a number of weekly Freshman Of The Week honors that our rookie quartet will receive.
Closing the Fall Sports Books
With the NCAA D1 Volleyball Selection show Sunday evening, we officially close the book on fall sports at UofL for the 2014 season.
As expected, the Cards did not receive a bid after a lackluster year in The ACC, so their season is officially completed.
Beyond UofL volleyball, though, Louisville is hosting an NCAA Regional location for the tournament, so be sure to get your tickets for December 12th and 13th at the KFC Yum! Center to come see some great volleyball action.
Teams that you might (likely will) see in action (depending on first and second round results) are perennial powerhouses Penn State and UCLA; an extremely good Wisconsin team that beat us in the season opener; as well as what must be said is also a quite good Kentucky team.

I'm hoping we're as good as the polls seem to think we are. A couple wins this week will confirm it.
