Bemis bats her way to Big East Player of the Week
(A reminder that the Kentucky Derby post position draw is Wednesday. Steve Buttelman, the Churchill Downs bugler, would surely blow out a smoking rendition of "Anchors Aweigh" to salute the smoking bat of junior third base star Chelsea Bemis.
What a week at the plate for the Louisville slugger! Bemis batted .733 during the Cards 5-0 sweep of the competition and drove in 13 runs. Three homers against St.John in one game and a grand slam in another.
Bemis, out of San Diego, has started every game at third base since arriving on campus for the Cards. She's batted over .300 each season she's been here and was on the All Big East team as a sophomore.
Chelsea is one of five Cardinals batting over .300 this year, joining Melissa Roth, Vanessa James, Jordan Trimble and Alicja Wolny in the club. Louisville (32-15) has outscored the opposition 247-142 in games so far and the Cards are third in the Big East standings going into the finale of the year.

Just an add on, Bemis was also named National Player of the Week for her accomplishments.
