THURSDAY CARDINAL COUPLE
Thursday is normally Jeff McAdams' day to write. However, he is unavailable today, so I am pinch-hitting for him. I will do my best to cover in his absence. With that in mind, we will start by talking about none other than, volleyball!
The Louisville Women’s Volleyball
team has been awarded an AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Team
Academic Award! The award is given to
volleyball programs throughout the country, women’s, men’s, collegiate and high
school teams, honoring excellence in the classroom. Teams must maintain a cumulative 3.30 team
gpa based on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.20 on a 5.0 scale.
The award was started in the
1992-93 academic year with 62 programs being honored to this years recipients
topping out at the highest yet, of 622 programs. Since the 2001-2002 season the rise in teams
receiving the award has grown 300%.
Congratulations to our
VolleyCards! For a complete list of this
years recipients you can check out this link:

If history is to repeat
itself, Louisville Women’s Basketball fans will be anticipating the start of the 2013-14 season. The ladies are on campus and we're receiving updates
periodically about the incoming class, getting to know them. The first to be introduced to the fans is
Basketball and Track athlete, Emmonnie Henderson. Check it out here:

To round out today’s coverage, the
SoccerCards had their media day Wednesday. If you are listening to the Cardinal Couple Radio Hour on Saturday
mornings you are no stranger to the information that was presented on media day. Paulie has regular interviews with Coach
Karen Ferguson Dayes known as Kickin’ it with Karen.
The team returns a veteran
squad of 8 seniors and 9 starters. The
team also returns 97% of it’s scoring from last season.
The SoccerCards start the
season this Sunday, August 11 at an away exhibition game at Vanderbilt. The home opener is Friday, August 23 against
Butler.

Yiikes - Basketball season is just around the corner, and I still haven't written the play-by-play expose of how the officiating in the Baylor game was heavily biased in favor of Baylor. In fact, the only thing worse than the officiating was Mulkey's (lack of) coaching. If Mulkey had been coaching instead of trying to self-induce a wardrobe malfunction, maybe Griner would have been under the basket instead of at half court on Louisville's last possession. Anyway, maybe I'll get this thing written before the season starts, but no promises. PDX Phil
ReplyDeleteOnce the oratory is ready to roll, PDX...we'll frature it on CARDINAL COUPLE RADIO...if Geraldo, Barbara Walters or Steven Colbert don't get to you first. As for the fashion-driven Ms. Mulkey, we can hardly wait until Family Dollar rolls out her exclusive "tear-away" clothing line.
