REFLECTIONS

Remember the Silos? 

Remember the question in job interviews: Where do you see yourself in five/ten years? How many times have we looked ahead to think about where we would be but never actually looked back to see where we came from over that same stretch? In just 10 short (or long) years, things at Louisville, especially with women's sports have changed drastically.

Before we look at how Louisville Athletics has changed over the last 10 years I'll do a quick reflection of myself involved with UofL over the last 10 years.

This time 10 years ago I was preparing to enter freshman year as a Cardinal. I was still a UK fan at that time. It's crazy to think my UofL fan blood has only been around for 10 years and my involvement with their sports even shorter!

I was getting ready for band camp with the Cardinal Marching Band- my first ever Louisville game as a student or in band was a Louisville vs Kentucky football game. Oh, the irony. In that same stretch of few weeks, I had joined the Cardinal Pride Pep Band and my earliest memory of a women's sport was volleyball. What freshman boy wouldn't be in awe over Katie George?

In that span of 10 years, I quickly switched my allegiances to Louisville, spent many years in the band, attended hundreds of games, traveled the country to cheer on the Cards, worked as a student on campus, changed majors, graduated, changed "big boy" jobs, and somehow became deeply involved in Louisville Athletics media. I went from having my first camera and taking some pretty poor quality photos at games that you can find in really old posts on here to newer cameras (I just bought another new camera two days ago) and slightly better quality photos. Many of the action photos you see from recent games have my handprint on them.

But let's move onto Louisville Athletics in the last 10 years. Overall, the Cards were still one of the top schools in the Big East. The Big East days would come to a close before the Cards spent a year in the AAC and have since been a more notable name in the ACC for the last several years.

Tom Jurich was still Athletic Director. We have since seen Vince Tyra come in to replace him, followed by Josh Heird being named as the newest successor earlier this year.

No new sports have arrived to campus in the last 10 years, but many stadiums and facilities have had nice overhauls. Lacrosse got a press box. Field hockey just got a new turf. Volleyball moved from Cardinal Arena, to the KFC Yum! Center, back to Cardinal Arena, now known as L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. Soccer moved from Cardinal Park to Dr Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Basketball was just familiarizing itself with its new home at the KFC Yum! Center. Softball got a makeover with seating.

Women's basketball added three more Final Four appearances in the last decade. They have hoisted the ACC trophy four times through the regular season or conference tournament. They have had two ACC Player of the Year awards and have had numerous players go to the WNBA. Multiple assistant coaches have gone on to become head coaches or associate head coaches at schools such as Mississippi State, EKU, and USC.

Field Hockey earned its first ever trip to the Final Four. It has also won an ACC Championship and is one a few ACC schools to ever go undefeated in conference play in a single season. The wall of All-Americans grew significantly.

Golf has seen coaching changes. Whitney Young is in her third season at the helm. Her predecessor, Courtney Trimble, was brand new 10 years ago. The Cards became a near-lock for the NCAA Regional Championships each year including reaching the NCAA Championship final in 2018.

Lacrosse saw a transition from its first ever head coach to its current head coach in Scott Teeter. The Cards have spent plenty of time in the Top 25 over the last decade and has even grown enough to include primetime TV games at Cardinal Football Stadium. The presence of international players on the roster has grown a lot in that timespan.

Soccer saw a move from Cardinal Park to Dr Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium, lauded for being one of the premier collegiate soccer-only facilities in the country. The Cards have seen multiple NCAA Tournament appearances as well as a handful of players drafted to go pro. Two players were named to their respective conference Offensive Player of the Year with Emina Ekic in the ACC in 2020 and Christine Exeter in the AAC in 2013. There was also a beautiful 2-1 overtime victory over #1 North Carolina in 2015.

Softball saw its first ever coach Sandy Pearsall retire after having built the program from the ground up and being in charge for almost 20 years to seeing the hire of Holly Aprile. Ulmer Stadium had an overhaul with seating since that time and just revamped their lights to include nighttime UofL red lights recently. They have been to five NCAA Regionals in the last 10 years.

Swimming and Diving went from no women's championships to seeing two different women's athletes earn NCAA titles. Kelsi Worrell won back-to-back titles in the butterfly. She became the first woman in history to swim the 100-yard butterfly in under 50 seconds. Mallory Comerford raised the NCAA Championship trophy three times in her career at Louisville. She even tied with Katie Ledecky in the 200-yard freestyle at the 2017 NCAA Championships. Arthur Albiero has continued to help Louisville Swimming and Diving became highly decorated. Louisville also saw a big jump in its diving program and even sent a diver to the World Championships this past summer.

Track and Field went from sharing Cardinal Park with soccer to having full rights to the venue. They also partnered with the City of Louisville to add an indoor track and field venue in downtown Louisville so the program would have the option to host both indoor and outdoor meets. The field program has become one of the top in the country and the Cards saw their first women's outdoor individual champion when Gabriela Leon won the pole vault this year.

Volleyball has gone through quite a bit of change. Anne Kordes was early in her stint at Louisville as the Cards' sixth head coach in program history and was in the midst of winning four conference titles in six years before Dani Busboom Kelly came in behind her. Volleyball had gone from playing in Cardinal Arena on campus to transitioning to the KFC Yum! Center before a huge revamp and renaming of Cardinal Arena, now L&N FCU Arena, became the permanent home for Louisville volleyball. Under Coach DBK, Louisville has one multiple ACC championships and has made three Sweet Sixteen appearances, two Elite Eights, and a Final Four. The Cards became ranked #1 for the first time in program history en route to a 32-0 start to the season.

Here at Cardinal Couple, Jeff, Case, Daryl, and I have all joined Paulie's ranks as writers and contributors. Ten years ago, the writers were Sandy, Jenny, Paulie, Sonja, Phil and David Watson.  Our time on "live" radio transitioned from a basement on a hill in Crescent Hill, to a studio/house in the Mellwood area, seeing that radio station closing and us transitioning to the ever-popular podcast format. The ACC Pick Em and NCAA Pick Em have both grown into popular events that have become highly competitive. 

Things change over time and it seems like things have grown for the better over the last 10 years. With many bright moments ahead in Louisville Athletics, it's nice to take a moment just to look at how far things have come in the last 10 years and the insane amount of accolades and accomplishments have happened in that span.

Hopefully we can look back in another 10 years and see plenty more to brag about in that stretch.

Carmyn Greenwood All-American Honors -- Kelsi Worrell Dahlia Retires -- Lauren Hartlage -- THURSDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Good morning and Happy Thursday to all of our Cardinal Couple readers! After a brief hiatus I am back. Thank you to Daryl for filling in and taking over on Tuesday for me.

Katy and I made a road trip down to Fort Mill, S.C. to see her family and have our engagement photos taken. We also picked up our marriage certificate (we have roughly a year before the big day) so it was a rather eventful weekend and trip.

Carmyn Greenwood Named All-American

Louisville softball will have a new name and jersey to hang up at Ulmer Stadium. Carmyn Greenwood was named to the NFCA All-American third team. Greenwood is the first Cardinal to earn the All-American honors since 2013 when Katie Keller and Alicja Wolny were named to the second team. 

Greenwood wrapped up her time at Louisville with several notable statistics. She led the team with a .400 batting average, 14 doubles, seven triples, 70 hits, 54 rbis, 1.270 on-base + slugging percentage, and 54 runs scored. The seven triples was an ACC best while her total hits and her combined on-base and slugging percentage were second in the conference. Her runs scored ranked third and rbis ranked fourth. 

Greenwood also now holds the program record with a .408 career batting average. Her .657 career slugging percentage ranks second in school history. She also sits high in many categories such as career on-base percentage, single season batting average, hits, runs scored, home runs, and total bases.

Heckuva way to go out for one of Louisville's best.

Kelsi Worrell Dahlia Retires from Swimming

An absolute Louisville legend and multi-time NCAA national champion announced her retirement via social media this week. Kelsi Worrell, now Kelsi Dahlia has retired from swimming.

Dahlia spent the last several years with Team USA swimming and appeared in the 2016 Olympics. She won two national titles at Louisville in the 100m butterfly and was national runner-up her sophomore year. She also set an American and NCAA record during her Louisville career.

We would like to wish Kelsi Worrell Dahlia a happy retirement on a highly successful career.

Lauren Hartlage to Compete in 2022 US Women's Open

Following a successful career with Louisville women's golf, Lauren Hartlage is now enjoying her professional career and will compete in the 2022 US Women's Open.

The event is being held at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club from June 2-5. Her tee time is 2:46 p.m.

Hartlage qualified for the event after medaling in Columbus earlier this season.

We wish Hartlage the best of luck!

No News? -- Season Recaps -- TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

ALL QUIET ON THE CARDINAL FRONT

With Louisville softball not being named to the 64-team NCAA Tournament, only Louisville track and field has anything remaining on their schedule this season. They will begin the NCAA Outdoor Championships beginning next Wednesday, May 25.

So, for the next week, we don't have enough games or meets to report on. Summertime arrived quite fast for us here at Cardinal Couple.

What do we talk about now? Well, whatever we want.

Before we eagerly look ahead to the 2022 fall sports seasons, we should take a moment to reflect on the spring sports.

Lacrosse

Still tapping on the door of a breakout season, Louisville lacrosse went 7-11 on the year with an early exit in the ACC Tournament. The Cards won one ACC game on the year, matching the previous year's total.

The Cards lost four matches by one goal each as well as one loss by three goals and four goals each. The difference in all of those games was the winning mentality that is still being established at Louisville. Turn those six losses into wins and it was a remarkable season.

The Cards relied on a pair of inexperienced goalkeepers that were near the bottom of the conference in goals allowed per game. With a full year under the belts, both keepers should be on pace for big seasons next year.

On the offensive end, seven Cards totaled double-digit goals with two scoring 50+ on the season. Three of the top five scorers were recognized at senior day, but Hannah Morris hinted on social media that she might return for her COVID year of eligibility. Bringing back last season's top scorer would be a major boost.

Where Louisville needs to focus on in the offseason is transition defense and draw controls, both categories that hurt the Cards throughout the season, especially in late-game situations.

Softball

Injuries and a few players with an early exodus from the program proved to be the Achilles Heel for Louisville softball. The Cards lost Charley Butler before the start of the season and Chardonnay Harris midway through the season. Easton Lotus went down halfway through with a knee injury and Hannah File nursed a leg injury on and off throughout the year. Gabby Holloway also ended her season early in the circle with a chest and arm injury.

There were positives, however. Holly Aprile had a fairly young squad. All six freshmen on the roster played key roles at some point throughout the year. Two of the four freshmen were key contributors or starters with the other two sophomores being the top pinch runners.

The supposed return of Taylor Roby next year is a giant plus on both sides of the ball. Roby was the top pitcher by more than 100 innings and led the team in home runs while standing top three on the team in RBIs, slugging percentage, walks, and plate appearances.

The Cards had a strong offense for much of the year, but went cold over the final four games of the season, scoring a combined two runs in those outings. Louisville batted .278 on the year and outscored opponents 276-260.

A 27-25 overall record and first round exit from the ACC Tournament left them on the outside looking in for the NCAA Tournament. Based on the teams that made the field, the Cards were presumably a first four out or next four out team.

With several pitchers slated to return next year and an expected healthy roster, the 2023 team has the potential to make some noise and get to the mid-30s in win total.

Tennis

Louisville tennis has had a love-hate relationship with their season. The Cards went 0-14 in conference play but had an incredible 8-1 non-conference outing for a grand total of 8-15 this season. The ACC is another dominant force in tennis and the Cards suffer from that.

Titiana Simova was the only player above .500 in individual matches with a 12-8 record. Andrea Di Palma went 9-11 and Chelsea Sawyer went 8-13 while the rest of the team combined for 15 wins.

Minus the shortened COVID-19 season, Louisville has not had a winning season since 2016-2017 and has plenty of work to do to get back to that point.

Rowing

We were able to go over the season for Louisville rowing on our podcast over the weekend in depth. The Cards have had a slow, but steady climb over the last several years.

While program bests and stronger finishes continue to become more common, there remains a noticeable gap between the Cards and the top teams in the conference.

Patience might be the biggest key for Louisville rowing in the next few years.

Golf

Without a doubt having the best spring season of the recognized Louisville women's sports, Louisville golf had another great season. The Cards went to an eighth straight NCAA Regional.

They had a pair of wins in the Illinois Invitational and The Club at Olde Stone Intercollegiate. The Cards then sat in the middle of the pack going into the final day of the ACC Championships before struggling on the final day and dropping down. They wrapped up the season finishing tied for seventh in the NCAA Regional behind all higher-ranked teams.

With the exception of Kendall Griffin, Louisville can bring back the rest of the team in terms of eligibility as Mairead Martin and Lauren Thibodeau both have a COVID year should they choose to use it.

Track and Field

Their season isn't quite done so we won't recap their season yet, but they had a strong outing at the ACC Outdoor Championships with a plethora of individual honors and podium finishes. Could the Cards bring home some hardware from the NCAA Championships? Absolutely.

Rob Bennett Joins Golf Coaching Staff -- THURSDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Between the lack of news among UofL sports and my focus and attention having been entirely on the Olympics, today's article will be rather short and sweet.

As we have seen all throughout the first week in the Olympics, Team USA continues to be in contention for the gold medal race and overall medal race, but Japan and China continue to be thorns for the Americans.

The big news in the Olympics continues to be centered on Simone Biles and the Norwegian Beach Handball Team. The two topics are unrelated. I'll save my thoughts for Saturday's radio-podcast, which can be heard live through YouTube, but I do stand in support of both Biles and Norway.

Rob Bennett Joins Golf Coaching Staff

UofL women's golf announced that Rob Bennett will join the team as an assistant coach. Bennett comes to Louisville after spending the last three seasons with Abilene Christian.

"We're excited to welcome Coach Rob Bennett to our coaching staff," said head coach Whitney Young. "His vision, passion, and experience will help us continue taking steps towards future success. We look forward to him making a positive impact on our student-athletes with his dedication, work ethic, and competitive nature."

During his time with Abilene Christian, the Wildcats rose over 60 spots in the national rankings. ACU set school records in scoring average, low single round score, and low tournament score under Bennett's guidance.

UofL women's golf is no stranger to the national rankings and competing in the postseason. Bennett could be the key into helping Coach Young continue to build this program and advance them further.

Daryl is out for our Cardinal Couple Radio Hour Podcast this weekend, but is expected to have tomorrow's write so tune in. Like myself, she has been following all sorts of Olympics happenings when she's not pushing buttons and running the camera crew at Louisville Slugger Field.

Pastor Award -- Golf Transfer -- TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

 Pastor Wins Award

Louisville Field Hockey's Mercedes Pastor is remarkable player and the rest of the country continues to recognize that. The Argentinian was named the NFHCA West Region Player of the Year.

This is her third straight NFHCA All-West Region honors. She was named ACC Player of the Week four times and the NFHCA Player of the Week three times.

The NFHCA Awards Show will be live-streamed on YouTube next week on June 15, 2021. At that time, the All-Americans and the National Player of the Year will be announced. Pastor will join the other Region Players of the Year Erin Matson (UNC, South Region), Jonna Kennedy (Boston College, Northeast Region), Sophie Hamilton (UConn, Mideast Region), and Gianna Glatz (Rutgers, Mid-Atlantic Region) as nominees for National Player of the Year.

Pastor has hopes to return to Louisville for one final season this fall and we all hope that we will see her rep the red and black jersey one more time.

Kendall Griffin Joins Golf

Louisville women's golf signed a transfer with Kendall Griffin coming to Louisville for her final year of eligibility.

Griffin joins the Cards after four years at LSU where she accumulated a 75.28 career stroke average. She had two top-10 and one top-five finish as a senior and finished tied for fifth in the SEC Championship.

"We're so excited to sing Kendall as a graduate student," said Coach Whitney Young. "She has had a very successful career at LSU and we look forward to bringing her energy, experience, and passion to the University of Louisville. She will make an immediate impact on our program and help us in reaching our National Championship aspirations for 2022. The addition of Kendall really caps off what was an already exciting 2021 class."

Adding Griffin will be a huge asset as Lauren Hartladge has concluded her collegiate career. The Cards made the NCAA Regional round this season and hosted their first ever NCAA Regional.

WCWS Set

I opted to watch the new Conjuring movie (did you know there's eight films in the Conjuring Universe now?) over the WCWS. The action, though, was dramatic and surprising for those who did and those who played.

In the first game of the day, James Madison University started the game with a first pitch home run for a quick 1-0 lead. It was all Oklahoma after that as the 1-seed scored seven unanswered to win 7-1. However, the attention was focused on Oddicci Alexander and the career she had with JMU.

The second game saw 10-seed Florida State square off against 3-seed Alabama. The Seminoles started the game with a three-run home run off Montana Fouts, In fact, Fouts got pulled early as FSU held an 8-2 lead after three innings. The Crimson Tide tried to rally but it ultimately was the ACC powerhouse earning the 8-5 win.

Game One of the best-of-three series between Oklahoma and Florida State begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. You can check that game out during commercial breaks of the Lynx vs Mystics and Wings vs Mercury games. Myisha Hines-Allen had an incredible welcome back performance for the Mystics and she will try to help Washington break their losing streak.

A Look at the Weekend -- FRIDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

A Weekend Packed Full of Events


After having nothing for the entirety of Wednesday or Thursday we finally have sports again.  Let's dive right in and see what's happening.


--Friday, September 14--

Men's Golf opens up their season at home hosting the Cardinal Challenge.  The event is scheduled for all day and will be at the Louisville Golf Club near the outlet mall in Simpsonville.

Men's Tennis splits up into two locations with part of the team headed up to Cincinnati for the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational.  The event is actually north of Cincinnati, located in Mason, not far from King's Island.  Their other half will be in Nashville for the Vanderbilt Commodore Scramble.  Both events are scheduled for all day.

Men's Soccer travels up Northeast to Red Sox country for a premiere ACC match-up against Boston College.  #7 Louisville is coming off a 3-0 victory against #2 Duke and hopes to improve to 2-0-0 in the ACC with a victory against the Eagles.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Another sport also plays Boston College today.  Field Hockey is at home at Trager Stadium against the Eagles  #8 Louisville and #9 Boston College will battle it out to see who will get their second conference win.  UofL took the win on the road 4-1 last year.  This game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.

Volleyball looks to get revenge from a 3-0 loss at Kentucky last year when they host the Wildcats at Cardinal Arena at 7:00 p.m.  #20 Kentucky has had a rough start to the year at 4-4 but has played a few top teams just like Louisville.  The Cards sit at 6-3 and hope to improve that record in a sold out venue that is set to be a Red Out.

--Saturday, September 15--

Men's golf continues hosting the Cardinal Classic in the second day of the event.

Both halves of men's tennis will continue play at Cincinnati and Nashville.

Cross Country begins their season on the road in Nashville.  They'll kick off the Commodore Classic at 9:00 a.m., run over to cheer on tennis on their route around town and hope to start off the season with a win.

Volleyball hosts their second match in less than 24 hours, facing Chattanooga at 3:00 p.m.  Maybe I can convince Paulie to join me for the first half before heading down Floyd Street to catch Card March.  It might be difficult to mentally hype yourself up for a quick turnaround, especially after the excitement of playing a rival the night before.

Women's Soccer hopes to continue their hot start when they open ACC play at Pittsburgh.  If the offense can get going early in this 7:00 p.m. start time then they could return home 8-1-0 before hosting Notre Dame next week.

Football might have a normal game after last week's monsoon.  They'll host Western Kentucky in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.  A 31-7 victory last week may have been skewed in favor of Indiana State because of the rain so this game should define the season a little bit more.

--Sunday, September 16--

Men's golf wraps up play in the Cardinal Classic.

Men's tennis will finish in Nashville after the Cincinnati group having completed their event on Saturday.

Field Hockey returns to action with another ranked opponent visiting Louisville.  #11 Northwestern will visit town.  They won both match-ups against the Cards last year including a 2-1 overtime victory against the Cards in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  UofL will look for revenge starting at noon.

Softball begins their fall schedule with a double-header at Eastern Kentucky starting at 1:00 p.m.  This will be the first in-game action we will see Coach Holly Aprile have with the Cards.

Was your calendar big enough for all of that?  At least this coming Monday will be an empty schedule, giving all of us time to catch our breath.


What Day Is It? 

Borrow one of those 64-packs of Crayola's from a youngster you know, or get creative with those left-over half cans of paint you have in the garage or shed, because it's National Coloring Day.

How should you celebrate?

You could color something. Grab your favorite medium of expression and bring some brightness to the world! Paulie tells of a tradition that he took part in each coloring day at a place he worked where they sat out pages from a coloring book, a bunch of crayons and employees got an extended break during the day to create their own masterpiece.

Or, color your hair. Maybe put some food coloring in one of your favorite dishes and eat blue macaroni and cheese for lunch. Donate art supplies to a kindergarten or day care. Or wear creative, bright-colored clothing to work or the mall.  Be sure and include red in what you do, after all, you are Cardinal fans and we have to represent!

Sunday Cardinal Couple

Quick Hits

Golf in the ACCs

The golf team finished 7th in the ACC championships.  Katie Mitchell fired a 1-under par 3rd round to come in 2-over for the competition, earning a top-20 finish.  Emily Haas also had a good competition, finishing out at 3-over in a tie for 21st position.  Katie Petrino and Louise Oxner finished in ties for 36th and 39th with 9-over and 10-over results respectively.

The Golf team now awaits the NCAA Championships field announcement on the 27th.  The NCAA takes place over the course of four different Regional Competitions, and then a Final Championship.

Baseball

Baseball is outside of our normal wheelhouse, but the finish to the nightcap of the double-header last night was just too good not to mention.  To set the scene, its the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, bases loaded.  The Cards had scored earlier in the inning on a wild pitch to tie the score at 5 apiece.  With a low pitch, Corey Ray, who was on 3rd, got a great jump on the ball and stole home to win the game.

Head coach Dan McDonnell has never been afraid to make gutsy calls in games, and this one will rank right up there.  I'll wager you'll be able to catch the video of this one on ESPN in the Top 10 plays of the day.  The Cards won the first game of yesterday's double-header in convincing fashion, 10-1.

Rowing in Clemson

The rowing team is in Clemson for the Clemson Invitational, a competition they have competed in regularly for several years.  The team crossed the finish line for victory twice and also claimed three runner-up finishes.

The victories came from the second varsity eight crew and the varsity four crew, with the victories being by 4 and 5 second winning margins respectively.

The Clemson Invitation continues today.

Softball Down South

Softball lost what turned out to be the series opener against Ole Miss 5-2.  After Friday's game was cancelled due to rain and soggy field conditions, the Cards took on their first of two consecutive SEC foes.

Maryssa Becker started in the circle and got dinged for the loss on two runs in the first two innings, with Shelby McCombs in relief taking three runs in five innings pitched.

The bright spot of the game for the Cards was in the 5th inning, when Brittany Sims got a single and Kayla Soles lined a shot over center to bring them both home.  That was the 3rd home run on the season for Soles.

The Cards would threaten in the 7th with Whitney Arion reaching, and Brittany Duncan getting hit by a pitch, but they couldn't complete the deed, and took the loss.

They will continue action against Ole Miss at 2 o'clock today.

Dreamcatcher Book Signing

Don't forget about Jude Schimmel's book signing at the Cardinal Hall of Fame Cafe at 2745 Crittenden Drive at 6:30.

Jude has been on quite a publicity tour, at least locally, with visits to several TV stations and calls in to a number of radio shows as well.  She also took a trip to Washington D.C. to visit the White House as Nike N7 ambassador.

With a Bachelor's in Sociology...during which she won the Elite 89 award at the 2013 Final Four...and finishing up her Master's in Sports Administration, there's no word in what, specifically, Jude will pursue for a career, but whatever it is, we're pretty certain that she will be extremely successful at it.

This week I am trying out one load in each of the machines in laundry where a later report indicating the best to worse wash results will be issued.

GOLF

The golf team is preparing for their upcoming Sunday – Tuesday matches in Sorrento, Florida where they will participate in the UCF Golf Tournament.   Even if we can’t go, perhaps we can all do our part with a shout out to the team with words of encouragement and maybe they will bring some of that warm Florida weather back to us.

BASKETBALL

“SHOWTIME”

PITTSBURGH GAME

Fans need to gear up for Saturday’s 2:00 Pittsburgh game at the KFC YUM! Center as our number of regular season home games are drawing to a close.  My understanding is that there will be no television broadcast of the game which leaves radio and Cards TV.  I only wish the timing of the audio from Matt and AJ matched the action on the court as it would be a great addition to following the action on the court.   Add instant replay on the big screen and no home transmission could ever match.  Past time for another record crowd to be cheering on the team!

LACROSSE

The Lacrosse teams long awaited and announced first match is upon us.   They play next Sunday at our home field against Canisius with a start time of 12:00.

SOFTBALL
 

On the 8^th, 9^th and 10^th the softball team opens in the Sportco Kick-Off Classic in Las Vegas, NV.    Over the course of the 3 days they will play Texas Tech, UNLV, DePaul, UCF and Minnesota.

SWIMMING AND DIVING
 

The swimming and diving teams are taking a short competition break in order to better prepare for the February 27 and 28^th Big East Championships which are being held in a short driving distance to Indianapolis.  The coaches are moving practices to private pool where they will not be disturbed.

TENNIS

Next up on the 8^th then 10^th of February will be Eastern Michigan held at Ypsilanti, Michigan and then Michigan State which is also away but at their campus East Lansing location.

TRACK

The Track team is nearing the end of their indoor season by using this time to prepare for the February 16 and 17 Big East Championships which this year are held in Geneva, Ohio.
