Louisville WBB starts ACC play tonight vs. Ga. Tech -- Friday Cardinal Couple
HOT GEORGIA TECH SQUAD VISITS KFC YUM! TONIGHT
Psst...Hey Buddy, whatcha doin' Friday night?
Jeff Walz and the Louisville WBB squad would like to hang out with you in the KFC YUM! Center this evening. The Cards begin ACC Conference play tonight against the 10-4 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m. and the mad scientist has got a couple of incentives to get you downtown.
Take a break from the gridiron action and check out the ladies!
The first 1000 fans to arrive will get a commemorative gift celebrating Louisville WBB's first game in ACC WBB Hoops. There are $5 baseline tickets available. Coach and the players want 12-14,000 in the KFC YUM! Center tonight to greet the "Ramblin' Wreck" to town. It's the first matchup ever between the two schools in WBB.
This is no pushover for Jude and the girls tonight. Georgia Tech is 10-4 on the season and has won their last five games. They downed Louisiana Tech 96-81 on December 30th. to win the Georgia Tech Holiday Tournament championship. Kaela Davis totalled 35 points in the win and the sharp-shooting guard had a two-game total of 63 points in the tournament. She will be a person-of-interest in the Cards attempt to go to 13-1 on the season. She averages 21.2 a game for head coach MaChelle Joseph
It doesn't stop with Davis. Aaliyah Whiteside had 17 and nine boards in the win over LT. Zaire O'Neill produced a big game off the bench with 20 points. Sydney Wallace, who sat out the last contest, adds 13.1 per game and Roddreika Rogers, shooting at almost 60% from the floor, averages eight points and nine boards a night.
The Tech was a NCAA Tournament squad last season, going 20-12. LSU dumped them out of the first round with a 92-72 defeat. This current swarm of Georgia Yellow Jackets was picked to finish seventh in the ACC Pre-Season prognostications.
The Cards hit the court after downing Evansville 73-51 on Dec. 29th. Ranked #7 in the polls, Louisville got big efforts from Jude Schimmel (12 points) and "E" Henderson (12 points) in the win. Bria Smith added 11 and Shawnta' Dyer came off the bench to toss in eight.
Freshman Mariya Moore leads Louisville in scoring with 13.2 ppg and is second in assists with 46 for the season. Schimmel leads the ACC with 36 steals. Myisha Hines-Allen shoots 56.3 from the floor
It should be a fun and challenging one today on Denny Crum Court. The Yellow Jackets really don't have a quality win to boast about this year and they took their defeats from Georgia, Green Bay, Minnesota and Michigan State...all potential NCAA Tournament squads. Davis (a former UofL recruiting target) is a bona fide top 25 player in the nation and the "Wreck" goes to the boards with a +11 advantage over their opponents.
If you can't join the festivities in person, it'll be on ESPN 3 and Cards Radio 790 AM and at CARDS TV.
