Serve and Volley Cards Prosper @ Purdue -- Tuesday Cardinal Couple

WORLDWIDE JEFF MCADAMS BRINGS THE TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE TO US WITH UPDATES AND FUTURE EVENTS ON UOFL WOMEN'S ATHLETICS. YOU ALSO KNOW WHO TO BLAME NOW IF YOU AREN'T A BIG FAN OF HIS FONT SIZE...

Tennis Youngsters Engineer Wins at Purdue

Over the weekend, UofL Women's Tennis competed in West Lafayette Indiana at the Purdue Invitational.  The Tennis team only has a single Senior on the squad, and no Juniors, leaving nine of the ten players on the roster being Freshmen and Sophomores.

Despite the youth of the squad, they came away from the tournament with wins in eight of the nine singles matches they played in, as well as picking up a win in a doubles match.

Freshman Ariana Rodriguez picked up three of the wins for the Cards.  Ellie Stokes, who looked impressive in a couple of competitions that I watched in the spring, picked up wins in two singles matches.  Jessie Lynn Paul, Ola Mally, and Olivia Boesing each claimed a singles win.

Mally and Boesing also claimed the squads only doubles match win of the event.

The Cardinals Tennis team will next head up to Flushing Meadows to compete in the USTA/ITA National Indoors Championships this weekend.

Other Sports Competing This Weekend

Field Hockey

Field Hockey begins their post-season campaign Thursday in the ACC Championship.  The action starts at
11am with #5 seed Louisville taking on #4 seed Wake Forest.

A win there moves the Cards on to take on the top seeded Virginia Cavaliers Friday at 1pm.

A win there earns a spot in the ACC championship game, and an automatic qualifying berth to the NCAA Field Hockey Championship.  The ACC final will take place Sunday at 1pm.

All games in the ACC tournament will be shown on ESPN3.

Volleyball

Volleyball will be taking one of their craziest road trips yet, with a match Friday at 7pm against Miami, in Florida, followed by a Sunday matchup against Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.

The VolleyCards could really use some wins and will be looking to find some answers to passing woes.  Gabbie Wiley showed what she's capable of in the last three sets of the Virginia match Sunday, will she continue to play at a high level of play and cement her place in the Cardinal's rotation?

Miami could prove to be quite a challenge for the Cards, let's hope they can find some answers in Florida.  Sunday should be an easier time of it as Notre Dame is only saved from being in last place in the ACC only by a woeful, and injury riddled, Syracuse team being even worse.  The Notre Dame game will be available on ESPN3 at 1pm Sunday.

Swimming and Diving

The only opportunity to see UofL women competing in the Louisville area this weekend, in any sport, is in
Swimming and Diving at the Ralph Wright Natatorium Friday evening, starting at 5pm, and Saturday starting at 10am.  North Carolina is coming to town for the first ACC conference matchup for the Swimming and Diving Cards.

We recommend the action at a Louisville Swim and Dive meet. The competition is non-stop and make sure you get out to support the Cards in this important ACC meet.

  1. Who do the Cards have coming in that might be able to cure these passing woes in Volleyball?

    2. Sauer could be a good one. This from the Courier-Journal:

Assumption senior Molly Sauer helped the USA Junior National volleyball team win the gold medal in the NORCECA Championships held in Guatemala in July, beating Cuba 25-15, 25-22, 25-16 in the final.

Sauer, a libero who has committed to the University of Louisville, received awards as the tournament's Best Receiver and Best Digger.
