JACKSON, SWINARSKI WITH WSOC GOALS IN WIN
WSOC
LOUISVILLE WOMEN'S SOCCER (3-0-1) TRAVELED TO HIGHLAND HEIGHTS on Sunday, home of Northern Kentucky University, to face the Norse in a match and the Cards emerged victorious....2-1.
The Cards tallied both their scores in the first half of action...Amber Jackson collecting the first one at the 16:57 mark off a pass by Brooke Dardano. Freshman Ameiia Swinarski completed the UofL scoring with 13 minutes left in the opening half. The Cards did allowed NKU a second half score at the 71:17 mark when Shipley Shay slid a shot by Cards back up goalkeeper Kailey Kimball, who started the final half and played the entire second half.
Louisville was the leader in shots (12-7) and shots on goal (6-2). The Cards had a 7-3 edge on corner kicks as well.
An important win for Louisville after the disappointing tie against New Hampshire for the Cards last time out. The Norse drop to 0-3 on the season, with shut out losses to Western Michigan and Ohio U.The contest was available on ESPN+ , and i thought i had a subscription to the channel, but was stymied by not having the correct password to watch. By the time I got that straightened out, the match was over.
Sometimes, I hate "the family of networks"...or as a friend calls it "the family of not-works" ...at least Statbroadcast is always farirly dependable
The "kickin Cards" head to nearby Cincinnati for a Tuesday match against the Bearcats next.
FIELD HOCKEY
I wish we had something to report about the Cards FH test against IU at IU today, but the IU school's sources are just calling it a "practice" between the two squads and there are no stats available for report or public viewing.
I tried, y'all.
I first checked with Louisvilie Field Hockey SID Lori Korte, She had nothing. I scoured the IU sports website for something,anything...but found nothing there. I finaly went to Statbroadcast and saw a Louisville 4 - Indiana 3 report from the 5th period...61:22 time mark. , but I couldn't get any individual or scoring information, since i am not a "recognized credential media member" by Statbroadcast. I fought back my tears, and moved on... Oh, well, i guess they have their own way of handlig exhibitions up in Bloomington. They say when the hosting team loses, the info gets less. I believe it.
It makes me value the SID staff here at Louisville, all that much more.
Field Hockey goes to Maryland 8/30/24 for their season openng match and then will face American University, based in Washington D.C. Sunday.
Have a marvelous Monday. After all, it is National Dog Day.

Great game for Emily Engstler last night. Probably the best of her career. She played the entire fourth quarter of a back-and-forth game and in that quarter (if I counted correctly) she had four points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
