(WORLDWIDE JEFF MCADAMS BROKE ALERTLY, WENT TO THE LEAD, STEADIED A BIT ON THE TURN BUT FINISHED FULL OF RUN AND COMPLETED TODAY'S CARDINAL COUPLE COLUMN WITHOUT ANY PRODDING FROM THE MANAGEMENT AND STAFF. HE DISCUSSES HOOPS AND LACROSSE TODAY. ALL THIS BEFORE HE HOPPED ON A FREIGHTER, SKATED THE OCEAN AND ENDED UP ON THE COAST OF PORTUGAL TO HELP ARTHUR ALBIERO RECRUIT PLATFORM DIVERS. (OK, I MADE UP THE LAST PART...BUT HE DID DO THE COLUMN TODAY.)

Basketball

Spy vs Spy?  Or Cardinals vs Cardinals?

Tonight our University of Louisville Cardinals will be in Muncie, IN to match wits with another set of Cardinals, those from Ball State University.

Louisville is 4-1 all-time against those other Cardinals with 3 of those match-ups being in Louisville, and the other two in Muncie, including the only loss in our first match-up in March of 2002.  The last game with our dopplegangers was in December of 2008, which, if you'll remember, turned out to be quite a good season for us.  Our victory in that game was by a margin of 28 points.

Ball State brings in a solidly mediocre 3-5 record on the year, sporting wins against Oakland City in an exhibition game, Detroit Mercy, Tennessee Tech, and Western Kentucky.  Nothing really to write home about, there.  They've taken defeats at the hands of Purdue (ranked 18th or 23rd, depending on the poll you look at), Pitt, Evansville, Auburn and Wyoming.

Does anyone else beside Paulie think
Ball State's logo is kinda weird?
Now, before we get carried away and start thinking about Colorado on Saturday, keep in mind that
this Ball State team was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference West in pre-season polls (behind Central Michigan)...ok, maybe that's still not all that impressive.

The Cards will face Ball State in Worthen Arena at 7:00 p.m. The game will be carried live on the Cards Radio with Matt Andrews and Adrienne Johnson, carried locally on WKRD 790 AM. The game will also be streamed live on Ball State All-Access.

Another bunch of college kids doing Sports TV? This could be fun...

Put in an NBA Appearance

What exactly is the
defender guarding here?
So the competition in Muncie may not be all that stiff, but the team is still getting a cool experience out of the trip.  To get to Muncie from Louisville, you basically drive to Indianapolis and turn right...ish.  Why not stop in Indy and catch an NBA game between the Pacers and the Detroit Pistons.  Alas, Peyton Siva was on the Inactive list for the game, so the team didn't get the chance to see him play.  They did, however, get to have a practice in The Banker's Life Fieldhouse where the Pacer's and Fever play their games.

Rumors bouncing around in the Motor City that the esteemed Mr. Siva may be taking a trip to the "D" or developmental league in the NBA soon. WE hope not...but who knows about what goes on in the minds of NBA coaches.

Speaking of Muncie, our occasionaly gadfly here at CARDINAL COUPLE, David Watson, is a Muncie resident. Paulie did call him over the weekend to see if he would be attending the game and possibly do a write-up for us here at CC. Turns out David is out-of-town visiting his brother in Florida...so it looks like Jenny will have the write-up in Wednesday's CC.  Jenny's been busy sqeulching rumors that she's moving to Lexington to cover UK hoops full-time. That and confusing Paulie on what day she's going to contribute articles have kept her quite busy.

Lacrosse Releases Schedule

This one slipped under the Cardinal Couple Radar...must've been when Timmy the Intern was at the console.

The Louisville Lacrosse schedule was released for the spring and features 6 games at home at the
Louisville Lacrosse Stadium on Floyd Street, as well as games against 6 of the 26 teams that made appearances in the 2013 NCAA Lacrosse tournament.

(Side note:  26?  I guess its better than Field Hockey's 19, but it still seems an odd number).

The opponents that appeared in last year's tournament are Duke...who advanced to the quarterfinals, Denver, Canisius, Notre Dame, Georgetown, and UConn.  Home games are against Detroit Mercy, Denver, Drexel, UConn, Rutgers, and Marquette.

WE'll be looking for Cardinal Couple readers to help Paulie remember that Lacrosse is competing in the Big East Conference still, like Field Hockey.  This will be the seventh year of competition for Louisville Lacrosse, all of which will have been in the Big East.  Lacrosse will be joining The ACC next year, along with the rest of UofL's sports which will make it all easier to keep track of.  The Big East conference tournament is hosted by Georgetown in Washington D.C. on the 1st and 3rd of May.
