VOLLEYCARDS 2021 SCHEDULE FEATURES 11 GAMES
The University of Louisville Volley ball squad picks up the remainder of their 2020-21 with 11 games scheduled, beginning on Sat. Feb 27th....bringing Notre Dame to town. Louisville was 5-2 in the fall 2020 portion of the schedule and played once against the Irish, losing to them in straight sets way back on Sept. 25th.
A total of 11 games for Aiko Jones and her teammates, five at Cardinal Arena and six on the road. The Cards will play on Friday four times, Saturday three times, Sunday three times and once on Thursday. All the games are conference games, so far, and the Cards will face 11 different opponents in the spring stretch. No information has been released yet on game times or whether fans will be allowed in the facilities to watch the matches.
After Notre Dame, the VolleyCards will host Virginia Tech on Friday, March 5th. They'll play a third straight home match when Wake Forest comes to town on Sunday, March 7th.
It's to the road for four matches after the home-stand. The travels begin at Clemson on Friday, March 12th. Louisville will go to Duke next for a Saturday, March 13th affair. After a week-long break, the Cards head to FSU for a Saturday, March 20th match and end up the first road trip at Virginia for Sunday, March 21st. action.
Louisville return home for two matches starting Friday, March 26th against Georgia Tech and brings in North Carolina State on Sunday, March 28th. The schedule ends with visits to Miami on Thursday, April 1st and North Carolina on Friday, April 2nd.
Interesting that Pittsburgh and Syracuse do not appear on the Spring sessions, but, let's keep in mind that, like basketball, there could be last minute scrambling to re-arrange games because of COVID concerns -- so anything is probably possible. Remember, Duke and Virginia opted-out of their 2020-21 women's basketball schedules and I would imagine there is a chance these two schools could do the same for Volleyball. This Spring slate features just one opponent from the fall -- that being Notre Dame.
(Not this year in Volleyball unless there's a NCAA Tourney match-up) |
There are no out-of-conference matches either. There weren't any non-conference in the fall, if you remember...so rivals UK, WKU and Cincinnati won't be hosting or visiting the Cards (as far as we know).
The NCAA Championship are slated for April 22-24 in Omaha, NE. The Cards are ranked #12 in the Spring 2021 AVCA DI rankings.
We expect our CARDINAL COUPLE Volleyball expert Jeff McAdams is practicing his C-A-R-D-S cheer already, in anticipation of Spring sets and serves. |
We'll have more on Louisville Volleyball here at CARDINAL COUPLE as more information becomes available,
WALZ PRESSER TODAY
A press conference today at 12:30 for Jeff Walz is on tap. These are done via Microsoft Teams and we expect Walz will cover Thursday's game against Syracuse and the first-ever #1 ranking for Louisville WBB. PAulie will join the presser and we'll post it here on the site when it becomes available.
We've tried to record these in the past with audio only this season and the sound quality just hasn't been that great, so, we're pretty much at the mercy of UofL and when they decide to release it for general view. Check back later today and we'll do our best to get it to you as soon as it's released.
It's a far cry from the weekly Wednesday 2019-20 pressers Walz used to have at the Planet Fitness practice facility in the first floor media room on Floyd Street, but, it is what it is and at least it's something in this COVID-influenced world we're living in.
Have a Wonderful Wednesday !!
