Cards hoping they don't chase Duke's shadow tonight -- Monday Cardinal Couple

Another top 25 matchup tonight for Louisville WBB

Road trip to Durham?
The University of Louisville basketball team will take the court accompanied by some Cameron Crazies tonight against the Duke Blue Devils and hope they aren't chasing the shadows against the #17 team in the nation. They say on Groundhog Day that if the creature sees his shadow, there are six more weeks of winter ahead. In this case, if the Cards see Duke's shadow...it means that Louisville is chasing a Dookie down the court on the way to the basket.

Better that the Dookies be chasing Cardinal shadows the balance of the evening.

Phil? You're gong to the Duke vs. Louisville game?
Coach JoAnne P's squad is to be feared whether it's sunny or cloudy and Elizabeth Williams and Rebecca Greenwell are two reasons why. Despite the eyebrow raising 15-6 record, the team picked to finish second in the preseason ACC poll hold opponents to the lowest field goal percentage in the conference. Louisville is second in the stat.

Does it mean brick city tonight in Durham?

Not if Louisville can help it. Winners of 11 of the last 12, the Cards are riding the newfound skills off the bench of Myisha Hines-Allen. Freshman Mariya Moore is also finding the bottom of the net with regularity and Jude Schimmel is capable of shutting up the Cameron Crazies with her three point prowess.

We will use you to guard Mariya Moore tonight!
Duke comes into this one off a 62-45 win over Pitt on Thursday night. It was the fourth win in five games for the Blue Devils. Duke has also accomplished something Louisville hasn't this season...beating Kentucky, and doing it handily...89-68 on the Durham campus.

It should be a good one tonight and cross your fingers, knock on wood, rub your rabbit's foot and work the rosary beads to help prevent a sluggish Louisville first ten minutes. Starting this one like the Cards did against Miami, Syracuse or Florida State could qualify the Cards to be branded with a message from the surgeon general:

Watching first half Louisville WBB could be hazardous to your attitude and eyesight.

We beat Duke in Field Hockey (ask these two) so it should
be no problem to beat them in hoops, right?

It's a 7 p.m. tip and the third time these two have faced each other. Each owns a win on their home court.

Beth Mowins has the call on ESPN 2 if you care to view it. Matt and AJ will have the radio call (sans Quentin Hillsman..as far as we know) on 790 WKRD AM.

Here's hoping that tonight is the start to six weeks of Cardinal wins...whether it's wintery weather or not. It won't be cold in Tampa in April, folks.

  1. i was just complaining about M&M not getting much national recognition here a day or two ago and this comes up. Probably the best, most insightful piece I've seen written about our program by a national sportwriter ever. Graham Hays really outdid himself on this one. Nice lead into Big Monday too.
