Louisville women's Soccer ties Duke, Volleyball falls in Virginia -- Sunday Cardinal Couple

CARDS AND BLUE DEVILS BATTLE TO SCORELESS TIE

A strong defensive effort by the Kickin' Cards and Duke Blue Devils resulted in a double-overtime, scoreless tie Saturday night in Durham, NC.

Louisville had a stronger offensive effort in the first 45 minutes, out-shooting the Dookies 5-4 and had scoring opportunities in the 30th. and 36th. minutes...but neither team could penetrate the net.

Duke ended up with a 15-8 shot advantage for the game...the Cards (4-5-2, 1-1-2) end the tough road trip and return to the friendly confines of Lynn Stadium for Thursday night action against ACC foe NC State. They kick it off at 7 p.m.

LOUISVILLE VOLLEYBALL HANDLED BY VIRGINIA

Anne Kordes has lamented about the Cards on-again, off-again passing skills and it served to help give the Lady Cavs (I know, it sounds weird) a 3-1 triumph over Louisville in Charlottesville Saturday night.

Football, field hockey and Volleyball have all fallen to UVA this season...all in Charlottesville.

Louisville battled UVA throughout the majority of the first set before falling late and taking the 25-22 loss. The Cards appeared to have the ship righted in the second set, going on a 14-0 run and demolishing the Cavs 25-11.

After the break, though...Virginia took the final four points to break open a close 21-18 match to win by seven. The Cavs also finished strong in the final set, battling back from a 13-10 deficit and 18-18 tie to close out the match 25-22.

Things don't get easier for the Set and Kill Cards...#5 Florida State visits the KFC YUM Center Friday night.

FIELD HOCKEY TODAY!

The #12 ranked Louisville Field Hockey squad hosts #15
Michigan today at 1 p.m. at Trager Stadium. Justine Sowry doesn't have a lot to complain about so far this season, but Sunday non-conference games have been less than the desired effect this year.

The Cards defend the 15-game win streak against a Wolverine squad that defeated IU 3-2 Friday in Bloomington. UM (8-3) is on a two game win streak and has only lost to #2 UNC, #4 Maryland and #11 Wake Forest this season.
