Sunday Cardinal Couple -- Lacrosse downs Drexel...Softball falls to UM

SUNDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

- Daley, Brust with four goals each in LAX win

- Softball slammed by UM

- Women's golf 2nd in Arizona

CARDS DOWN DREXEL 16-5

Louisville Lacrosse played a rare home game Saturday at the Lacrosse Stadium and disposed of the visiting Drexel Dragons 16-5.

Faye Brust and Cortnee Daley produced four scores each in the double-digit win for the Cards, who improve to 5-3 on the season.

The Dragons opened the scoring in the match, but Louisville went on a 8-0 run over the final 25 minutes...getting three scores from Daley and two each from Brust and Kaylin Morissette to answer the halftime buzzer with a comfortable 8-1 lead.

Brust opened the second half with a score and the Cards built that lead to 11-1 before Drexel responded with a couple of scores. UofL leading scorer on the season Nikki Boltja got into the act...one of six Louisville players to find the back of the net...with twelve minutes left and the Cards coasted in while handing Drexel their fourth loss of the season.

The Cards return to action Wednesday with a trip to the Music City to face Vandy.

Softball surpassed by Michigan

Several hours later on the Belknap Campus, the UofL Softball squad took the field against the University of Michigan Wolverines. The field was about all the Cards took...staying off the base paths with just five hits in a 9-1 loss.

UM did damage early...getting a run in the first, a home run in the second and five more in the fifth to jump up on Louisville 7-0.

The Cards decreased the margin in the bottom of the fifth when Katie Keller singled and touched home on a Kelsi Jones double. UM added two runs in the sixth with two consecutive home runs...the Wolverines put four over the fence against Louisville pitching in all.

Jones had two of the Cards hits and Maggie Ruckenbrod produced two also.

The two squads will square off again this morning at 11:30.

We just received word in the ever-changing world of Softball scheduling that UofL's games today have been cancelled due to the coming weather conditions.  The current plan is to play a double-header with Wisconsin tomorrow (Monday) starting at 1pm. -- Jeff McAdams

THE GOLDEN AGE OF BROADCASTING? NO, PROBABLY NOT

In case you missed the live Saturday morning broadcast of CARDINAL COUPLE RADIO, we had Angel McCoughtry, Becky Burke, Shelby Harper and Tise Wright all in the studio recalling their favorite moments at Louisville Cardinals.

OK, that didn't actually happen. But, they're welcome to do so if they ever want to.

Jeff and Paulie did have a rousing discussion and review of Cardinal Women's sports that took place over the last week and we previewed the week ahead.

You can listen and observe at the link below:
