Stanford University Cardinal
The final school joining the ACC for the upcoming school year is Stanford University. The Cardinal (singular, a tree, not a bird) sponsor 36 Division I sports- 16 men's teams and 20 women's teams. Between its old age from being founded in the late 1800s and carrying so many sports, Stanford has the most claimed national titles of any single school with 154 team titles.
Note: The total number of team titles for each school leaves room for debate due to many schools claiming championships before the NCAA was founded or before each respective sport was recognized by the NCAA.

USA women beat Germany 87-68
Are you having as much fun watching this 2024 USA Olympic Women's basketball team as the Cardinal Couple crew is? And, while it's true that none of them played for Louisville or Jeff Walz, just a look at the roster shows plenty of the girls battled vs. Walz squads in college. How many of the 12 can you come up with that played against UofL in the college days? I got 10 at first look, not even researchng. . And Jackie Young hails from Princeton, IN...just two hours away from the "Ville".
Normally, when you think of 12 WNBA players on the USA roster playing the rest of the world in the Olympics, one of your first thoughts is "I bet they score a bunch". And, defense probably doesn't come to mind immediately.However...Tuesday featured a USA squad that won their 58th stright game in a row with a defense that the legendary Jim Boeheim and his 2/3 zone would have been proud of.
The USA had 25 assists and held Germany to 14. They also hit nine of their 23 three point attempts for 43%. USA was strong on the boards, with 42 rebounds, and held Germany to 32.

6'4" ANAYA HARDY WILL GIVE CARDS WBB HOPS
We all love the dunk in basketbll, right? But to see it in the women's game is a surprise...a pleasant one, mind you, but not seen it very often.
Well...look at this:
She picked UofL over Michigan and Syracuse.
It should be a fun team to watch and Anaya will hopefully escape Jeff Walz's penchant for rarely playing freshmen.
Louisville is ranked #12 in ESPN' "Way-Too Early" poll for the 2024 season.

Until next time, Go Cards!
Let me cover the checklist in my head in regard to the joys and excitements of UofL!
-New month - Happy August! Which means, officially a new sports season month and Fall semester.
-Olympics - If you were a little confused Thursday morning thinking UofL's Jayden Ulrich was competing yesterday afternoon... it wasnt just you. But it wasn't yesterday! It is today! And I have linked the day's events schedule for you as well. The Group B event can be found on Peacock at 2:20pm
Olympics - Aug 2 Event Schedule
GOOD LUCK to our Olympic Card today!!!!
I've said it before and I.ll say it again, bring gymnastics to UofL! In the meantime, gymnastics fans can look forward to the legend Simone Biles coming to Louisville this fall...
I am currently in my super busy season of onboarding all the new faculty at UofL.. August 1st. is the first day for many salaried employees. Looking forward to seeing campus thriving again. There's just something about the fall semester!! probably because coming back from the holidays for the Spring semester with low frigid temps is not always exactly motivating... That's why they give us basketball to help us make it through!
Let's go have a great year, Card Nation!
As Always,
Go Cards!

LOUISVILLE WSOC HEAD COACH KAREN FERGUSON DAYES INTERVIEW
CC: We are here with Louisville Women's Soccer Head Coach Karen Ferguson Dayes. Coach, we appreciate the chance for the interview. I understand you are in two-a-days with the squad now
KFD: We are! Where has the summer gone, Paulie? We're back, we are in our second day of practice, having meetings and the squad is working hard.
CC: With 204 wins under your belt, you are the winningest coach in Louisville history. I can remember when the team played out at the track and field cpmplex next to Ulmer Stadium. Taking a look at last year, a kind of rough season for the squad with a 4-9-5 record and 3-5-3 in the ACC.
CC: How are things looking so far with the squad?
KFD: Time will tell. We are going to need some time,we have 14 returning players and 13 new...we're taking a look in the early sessions to see how the new players are meshing with the returning players. the almost 50% new isn't that uncommon, i think you'll probably see it with other squads here on or campus and across the nation because of the transfer portal. But, all has gone well so far, quite frankly.
KFD: (laughing) Yeah, yeah we are past that stage. The grow fairly quickly to a level of comfort with each other.
CC: What do you see the role being for players Karsyn Cherry, Lizzie Sexton and Erryn Floyd this year?
CC: You're having three new teams joinng the ACC, What is your thoughts and observations on them?
CC: Who are some of the other players we should keep an eye on?
CC: Some others that are new and you see contributing?
CC; Any final words for our readers?
