Wednesday Cardinal Couple -- An open letter to our ACC opponents
WEDNESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE
- Hello, ACC..
- ACC Celebration in the Ville
(An open letter to the ACC Athletic Programs and fans from a UofL sports fan. )
By way of introduction, we are Louisville. We may be the last and latest attendee to this party...but we think you'll find that we're not party poopers and you'll find us guests worth inviting. Don't be surprised if we become the life of the party.
We had a big celebration last night in our downtown area to celebrate our official entry into the ACC. Thousands showed up to show their excitement and enthusiasm about joining.
This...on a Tuesday night with scattered thunderstorms in the area.
We are aware of the upper echelon of ACC Athletics ( the big five) and have watched Duke, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida State and Virginia with due respect and admiration over the years as they have achieved athletic excellence. We'll suggest that we are ready to "make it a six pack" with our entry into the conference.
We think you'll like visits to our campus and city. We offer excellent facilities for your teams to compete against us in and some great venues to visit if you come to town for a few days.
The KFC YUM! Center. Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The Lynn Soccer Stadium. Trager Stadium. The Ralph Wright Natatorium. Ulmer Stadium. Jim Patterson Stadium. Easy access to all and convenient parking.
Excited? Yes we are. Intimidated? That would be a big, fat noooo. We are confident that our teams will do very well against you in conference play. Our coaches are world class. Our athletic director one of the best in college athletics. L1C4 ( Louisville First, Cards Forever) isn't just a catchy phrase. It is a mission and a way of life on our campus.
We look forward to visiting your campuses and cities...as well. Many of them are places where we have travelled before in former conference associations. It's good to be revisiting. I remember the frenzied atmosphere at Virginia Tech football games and tailgating excellence. The electric atmosphere in the Joyce Center for women's basketball. We know Tallahassee, Clemson, Durham and Chapel Hill will be just as exciting.
We are ready for the challenge. Our teams will offer their best. Your towns and campuses will become a sea of Cardinal Red and Black on gamedays. We are cordial, good sports and love the excitement of competition. We won't burn your couches or boo your athletic stars. We will drink your bourbon and sample your local cuisine. And bring our own for you to sample with us.
Coming to your campus...Pitino, Petrino, Walz, McDonnell and Kordes. Dom Brown, Sara Hammond, Montrezl Harrell, Maya McClendon and Marissa Becker. They all put on a good show and are excellent at what they do.
Instead of asking if Louisville is ready for the ACC, a better question might be....is the ACC ready for Louisville?
Although work commitments prevented me from joining the party at 4th. Street Live yesterday, the "observer" Charlie Springer (UofL Card Game) was there and does a great recap of the event. Site link below:
