VOLLEYBALL HONORS AND SEEDINGS -- WEDNESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

 FOUR NAMED TO AVCA ALL-SOUTH REGION FIRST TEAM

Four Louisville Volleyball players have been named to the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Associatiion) first team. Cara Cresse, Anna DeBeer, Elena Scott and Charitie Luper are the Cardinals named to he squad. Reese Robins has been named honorable mention to the regional team. 

Navelis Cabello has also received special recognition...named Freshman of the Year in the South Region. 

There are 14 All-Regional team members and 6-8 honorable mention honors handed out in the 10 regions.  The 211 athletics who received regional recognition represent 108 different schools. 

Louisville is one of sixteen schools that will go into third round action on Thursday and Friday.. The complete Sweet Sixteen list is: The Cards, Purdue ,Stanford, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Creighton, Texas, Wisconsin. Kentucky., Marquette, Dayton, Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M and Missouri. 

Kentucky defeated Cleveland State and Mnnesota to get to the Sweet Sixteen, The Cats are playing some of their best volleyball right now and could earn a rematch with the Cards if both reach the Final Four. The Cards won the regular season match 3-1 in Lexington at Memorial Coliseum. ..UK has to get past Missouri next to reach the "Great Eight" and then either Pittsburgh or Oregon to reach the Final Four. . .Kentucky played Missouria couple of weeks ago n the regular season and defeated them in four sets in Coumbia, MO.  

Louisville is in the Thursday-Saturday regional sequence,which means they will be playing in Freedom Hall instead of the KFC YUM! Center. Louisville women;s basketball has the YUM! Center Thursday, the UofL commencement exercises will be there Friday night and the Louisville mens' basketball squad play there Saturday. If the Cards down Purdue, they could face either Florida or Stanford. The Cards match against Purdue will begin around 9:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the first match of the night...Florida vs. Stanford. 

Yes, it is the long awaited chance for Cardinals fans to finally chant.."Go Cards, beat... Purdue" and not draw quizzical looks from the opponent.  Old link HERE

So, it should be a fun (and busy) next few days for the Cardnall Couple crew. Jared will be covering both Volleyball and women's basketball taking photos, Jeff will be at volleyball and Sonya and I will handle the women's basketball game vs. Grambling State. Daryl will most likely pop up at basketball and we're not sure whether Case will be monitoring it all from internet and televison or attending live...in any event, the Cardinal Couple crew will be quite busy.  

And,of course, the 2024 NCAA Volleyball Division I Final four will be in Louisville this year at the  KFC YUM Center December 19th and 22nd.  If Louisville makes it to the Final Four, you can count on us being there for the coverage.
