Louisville to Host 2026 FH Final Four -- WSoc Visits UNC -- THURSDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Trager Stadium to Host Another NCAA Final Four

Louisville field hockey has been selected to be the host location for the 2026 NCAA Field Hockey Final Four. Trager Stadium, which seats 2,500, will be the host stadium.

This will be the seventh time that Trager Stadium has hosted the NCAA DI Field Hockey Final Four. The most recent time was in 2018. The other times Louisville has hosted are 2002, 2005, 2008, 2011, and 2017.

NCAA Tournament games do not have free admission for any sports so this will be a ticketed event for all patrons in two years. We hope to see the Cards as one of the teams in the Final Four.

Women's Soccer Travels to North Carolina

Louisville women's soccer is back on the road with a trip to #3 North Carolina. The Cards and Tar Heels will square off in Chapel Hill at 7:00pm with streaming on ACCNX.

The Cards enter the match 6-3-2 and 1-2 in the ACC. Most recently, they took down NC State at Lynn Stadium 1-0. Mackenzie Geigle scored the game winner in the second half for her fifth goal of the season.

The Tar Heels sit at 11-1-0 on the season with their only loss coming against #2 Duke a month ago. Due to a weird scheduling setup, that match did not count in the conference standings so North Carolina is currently a perfect 4-0 in the ACC. This season, North Carolina has defeated ranked opponents Colorado, Wake Forest, and Virginia.

UNC has outscored opponents 24-9. Kate Faasse leads the offense with eight goals. Bella Sember has added five goals. Four other North Carolina players have scored this season. Defensively, Clare Gagne has played every minute in goal. She has recorded 23 saves while allowing only nine goals.

Happy Thursday and Go Cards!

Perroni headed to Colgate -- -- WEDNESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

NICOLE PERRONI NAMED COLGATE WOMEN'S LACROSSE ASSISTANT COACH

If we asked you where Colgate University was located, about half of our readership would proudly point across the river and tell us Southern Indiana , where the big Colgate-Palmolive clock is that faces Louisville. Nice try, but the school is located in Hamilton, NY...about a 100 miles away from Rohester, NY. Saratoga Race Track and 160 miles away from Newark, NJ.

The small (pop. 3500) liberal arts university in Hamilton is Colgate...a member of the Patriot League and the newest home for Cardinals LAX great Nicole Perroni. "Ol 88" scored 142 goals in 71 games in her four years playing for the Cards. It's her first coaching gig and it'll be kinda strange not to see Nicole running the turf down on Floyd Street this spring. .

She was the first staff hireand will serve as an assistant for new Colgate head coach Alyssa Guido. Guid
said this about the hire of Perroni:

"I'm extremely excited to have Nicole on the staff. Adding her knowlege from her DI days and international experience will add a unique dynamic to the players and the staff."

Colgate looks to improve over their 2024 season, where they went 3-14 overall and finshed in a four way tie for fifth place in the 10 team Patriot League conference.

At Louisville her senior year, Perroni was named to the All-ACC squad, She also received second team All-American honors, and IWLCA  All-region first team accolades.

We contacted, Louisville head LAX coach Scott Teeter about the hire by Colgate...His comments:.."She will do fantastic. I'm very proud of her. Colgate got a good one." .

The Raider is Colgate's mascot

We wish her the best of luck at "the toothpaste school" and know she'll bring a lot of smiles to Colgate Lax fans.

Volleyball News -- TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Volleyball Climbs Rankings

Following a highly successful weekend, Louisville Volleyball moved from #5 in the AVCA rankings up to #4. The Cards are one of three ACC teams in the Top 10 and one of six ACC teams currently ranked.

On Friday, Louisville cruised through a sweep over Cal including winning the first two sets by a combined 22 points. They followed that with a sweep over then-#3 Stanford on Sunday. Outside of the first set, this one was much closer that was highlighted by a 10-1 run in the second set.

The Cards sit at 10-2 on the year with five wins against ranked teams. Their two losses come against teams currently ranked in the top three.

Pitt remains the unanimous #1 after improving to 12-0. Nebraska (12-1) stayed put at #2 and Penn State (12-1) moved up a spot to #3. Stanford (9-1) fell to #5. Other teams Louisville has or will face currently ranked in the top 25 include #6 Creighton (11-2), #9 Wisconsin (7-4), #13 Kentucky (7-6), #16 Florida State (10-2), #17 SMU (10-3), and #19 Georgia Tech (8-3).

Elena Scott Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

For the third time this season, Elena Scott was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week. The senior libero continues to impress even the biggest volleyball experts with her antics and her wide radius of court she can cover.

In the two sweeps against Cal and Stanford, Scott averaged 6.5 digs per set. She also had a season-high 26 digs against the Bears. 26 digs in three sets (8.67/set) is an outrageous amount. She is up to 204 digs this season and 1,556 in her career. Her 4.98 digs per set this season is on pace for a career-high.

Louisville stays home this weekend with matches against Clemson at L&N Arena on Friday at 6:00pm (note the time change) and Georgia Tech at L&N Arena on Sunday at 1:30pm. Both matches are currently slated for ACCNX.

Happy Tuesday and Go Cards!
