Offense Was Offensive in Louisville 's Loss
It was a game day scenario that spelled the possiblity for distaster... the Cards were visiting sold out Purcell Pavllion on Notre Dame's Senior Day,. Just a few days ago, the Cards had pummeled a visiting FSU on Louisville's Senior Day. This time Louisville got a taste of the medicine that can be fed to visitiing teams on the day. The Irish danced past Louisville 75-58.
A tale of two halves. The Cards battled relatively hard in the first half and trailed by just two at the end of the first quarter. But, the Cards took a seven point lead at 36-29 into the locker room at halftime, Interestingy enough, the Cards were diong a lot of it with Olivia Cochran, who was on the bench for nine minutes in he second quarter. The defense was rocking, and one was cautiously optimistic. Could the Cards hold the Irish off in the second half and get a crucial road win?
The answer was a resonding "NO".
When you go 0-14 from the floor in a stretch of the third quarter and lose the quarter 30-10, it's obvious that your opponent has reacted and adjusted and you have lost whatever you had and are grabbing for the life preserver. Notre Dame's zone was zoning out Louisville's attack.
The Cards were reverting to the way they played against Virginia, and Notre dame was getting Hildago and Citron all the birthday cake and ice cream they wanted in this celerbation of lashing Louisville lopsided. The Cards couldn't rally in the fourth quarter and took the 16 point defeat.
So, now, any chances of getting two games at home in the NCAA Tournament have flown out the window. The Cards will be a #5 seed in the ACC Tournament and play on Thursday, a 11 a.m. game to start the day's four games. The Cards will get the winner of the #12 Clemson vs. #13 seed Boston College. We'll have a full bracket up here in our Tuesday article...maybe even later today
Let's hope the defense can return and point prodction does, too...the 58 points were Louisville's lowest of the season. Not a great way to go into post-season play..
More importantly, this team just doesn't seem tohave the leadership or the ability to put a 3-4 game winning run together since late January. And, time is running out.
The Fred Report
(Fred Mertz --i Love Lucy --after watck=hing the third quarter of Sinday's game) |
Free Throws -- 11-14 isnt so bad of an effort from the line. it's 78% and that'll earn a CAPITAL "F"
Rebounds -- Louisville fell in the rebounding battle 36-31. Cochran and Jefferon had six each.. Not our finest hour on the boards. and I can't award a letter.
Effort/Execution -- It was a tale of two halves there...Louisville did have that disaterous third quarter, after a 16-30 first half shooting spree. And 17 turnovers is too many, too. .I look at the overall picture and it was a loss, so i'll not award a letter. Not wth their lowest scoring output of the season
Defense -- The "d: gets an "f" in gradingfor that disasterous display in the econd half, #e looked lost, unmotivaed and throughly disillusioned. allowing 30 poins in a quarter just doesn't happeThe torunament tartsn to Louisville women's basketball squads. No letter.

ReplyDeleteWell the cards showed up in the first half, but went cold in the second half.
When you don't shoot the ball well you can't match the other teams intensity especially when you're on the road. Jayda Curry couldn't buy Basket it wasn't a good shooting night for her.
The 5th seed 👀sound good to me!
To be honest this team needs to play more basketball🏀 games ,so having an extra game to play is a good thing for this team practice make perfect .
Get rest after the ACC Tournament!
