Following a brief stint on the road, Louisville women's soccer returns home to the friendly confines of Dr Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium to host Indiana tonight. The match is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m., and will be aired on ACC Network Extra.
It's Alumni Night at Lynn Stadium and several Cardinal alums are expected to be in attendance for the match. Hopefully we'll run into some of them for a picture or maybe a couple quick comments if time allows.
While on their three-game road trip, the Cards went to Northern Kentucky to win 1-0, then traveled to Virginia for a neutral site match against ranked Memphis, where the Cards took a 3-2 upset victory. The trip wrapped up with a 0-0 draw at James Madison. The Cards are now 3-1-1 on the year.
Indiana comes into the match undefeated with a 1-0-3 record. They started with a trio of 0-0 draws against West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Ball State. Most recently, the Hoosiers took down Indiana State 3-0. If you're keeping count, that's a 3-0 goal difference for Indiana this season. I wonder how they're liking the new soccer rules which don't allow overimes or shootouts in the regular season?
Anna Bennett, Jen Blitchok, and Paige Webber each logged a score for Indiana. Blitchook leads the team with seven total shots and four on goal. Webber has has five shots with two on goal. No one else has more than one on target. For a quick and simple break down, a shot is anything on offense that can be considered an attempt to score while a shot on goal is one that would be a score if it were not saved/deflected by the goalkeeper or a defender. An actual goal would also be considered a shot on goal.
Defensively, Jamie Gerstenberg has logged all but 30 minutes for the Hoosiers. She's allowed no goals while recording 14 saves for a perfect save percentage.
With the season still being young and few scoring or shots by Indiana or their opponents, it's hard to get a feel for how good or not-so-good they are this year. Louisville's offense does appear to be the best the Hoosiers have faced this season and the Cards have the potential to put up multiple goals on the night.
Paulie and I plan to be in attendance for live, in-person coverage of the event.
Field Hockey and Volleyball at Home
#5 Louisville field hockey has their home opener this Friday at 5:00 p.m. against James Madison on the ACC Network Extra. The Cards have started the season 4-0 on the road.
#4 Louisville volleyball remains at home this weekend starting with a 7:00 p.m. match against Purdue on the ACC Network Extra. The Cards are 5-1 on the year with their sole loss coming against a top-10 Ohio State team.
We'll preview both of these games tomorrow.
Happy Thursday and Go Cards!

Good luck to women's soccer tonight. I hope they win. I'll unfortunately miss this one, back in Iowa learning how to manage a grocery store section. LOL. I should be teaching them. Maybe I'll tell them my infamous "sir, would you hold my melons?" story.
