Boston College enters the game boasting a 17-10 record. In ACC play, the Eagles have a 10-6 mark. However, BC is riding a five--game winning streak and has won eight of their last 11 games.
The Eagles like to score. They average 73.3 points per game, which is third in the ACC. Their scoring is spread evenly amongst several players.
They are a team the Cards have faced this season, with Louisville getting a 71-60 win January 16th. at the Conte Center in Chestnut Hill. That game featured a total of 19 made threes for BC and UofL. Dana had seven makes for UofL, Dickens connected on six. The Cards had a big second quarter to build at 40-30 half-time lead. Dana's 27 points led the way for five Cardinals in double figures and Louisvville shot a sizzling 57% for the contest.
Taylor Soule (13.9 ppg) and Emma Guy (13.7) have battled it out for the scoring title for the Eagles this year. They have been supported by Makayla Dickens (10.4), Cameron Swartz (9.7), and Marnelle Garraud (9.5).Senior Georgia Pineau came off the bench to score 20 in the Eagles last win -- over Miami.
The Eagles shoot .437 from the field and .303 from three-point range. Dickens has made 50 threes and Garraud has made 44. Both of them shoot above .333 from deep.
BC dominates the glass and out-rebounds opponents by five. Soule averages 7.9 per game and Guy has averaged 6.4.
Defensively, Boston College allows 67 points per game, one of the worst in the ACC. Opponents have shot over 40% from the field against them and have a whopping .328 mark from three-point range. The biggest threat on defense for Boston College is Garraud's 2.0 steals per game.
UofL owns the record all-time at 7-1. Their sole loss came in 1985 before some of us were ever thought of. The Cards are 6-0 against the Eagles since joining the ACC. The Cards won 87-51 at home last year in their lone match-up.
A victory would give the Cards at least a share of the ACC regular season title and lock up the 1-seed
in the ACC Tournament.
Also, to the first 1000 fans to show up, there will be an Angel McCoughtry bobblehead giveaway. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the Angel Bobblehead will be given away on the east side (2nd street side) of the main concourse. One per attendee.
Bracket Challenge
The next time I'm writing on this site the Cards will hopefully be ACC Champions and we will be in the process of the ACC WBB Tournament Challenge. As a reminder, all submissions need to be sent before the first game tips off. That means before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4th. We didn't have to deal with it last year, but, in case of a tie, earliest entry gets the prize.
You can always post your submission in the comments. Other options include e-mailing me -- Jared -- (eupherjared@gmail.com) or Paulie (cardinalcouple@twc.com). I have confirmed with Paulie that he has reached deep into the dusty Cardinal Couple prize closet and has two gift cards for first and second place. The winner gets a $25 card, second place a $15 card. Again the year, you have the choice of either Panera or Cracker Barrel. Neither Nordstrom's nor Tiffany's would give us anything.
Last year, Nick O. bested the field of contestants and captured the first place title in the Cardinal
Couple ACC Tournament Pick 'Em, with just two losses in the 14 picks.
We'll have a NCAA WBB Pick 'Em, too, so be prepared!
Do not hesitate to reach out to one of us with questions or concerns. Paulie will be at the ACC Tournament and I'll be contest chairman and judge again. The impeachment proceedings, thankfully, failed.
Rumor has it the "Florida Boys" David Watson and Joe Hill were behind the attempt to remove me from my title of "Czar Of The Bracket". Their idea of keeping the totals on the back of a golf scorecard didn't fly, though. It's rumored neither can count when it comes to recalling their score on a hole.
Soccer Scrimmage
In a spring friendly, Louisville women's soccer hosted Bellarmine. Due to the weather the match was played inside the Trager practice facility. Apparently not all of the fans got the "Closed Scrimmage" memo as there were roughly 40 people in attendance.
There were no official stats kept and the score was tallied in my head. UofL did not release any information following the match.
Nearly everyone who dressed for the Cards saw some action although a few players did not dress for unspecified reasons.
When players sit out or play in different positions in spring ball there isn't too much concern as it is a time to test theories and try new looks. There are plenty of seniors to replace from last year's squad.
Louisville travels to Saint Louis on March 21. They have home exhibitions on March 29 and April 18 against Dayton and Wisconsin. There is a road trip sandwiched between on April 4 at Illinois.
I snuck out to capture last night's match and me being me, I didn't want to leave early. Here's a few other shots of the scrimmage.
Burger of the Week
Located mere blocks from campus is a place many UofL students have been to at one point or another- Burger Boy Diner. The only downside to this place is the wait time. Between being seated, being waited on, and getting your food to you can take a couple hours during peak lunch or dinner times, at times. .
The Burger Boy Diner is located at 1450 S.Brook Street and it's a 24/7 establishment, so if that burger urge hits you at 3 a.m., no problem. They have you covered.
The Burger Boy Combo features a pair of 1/4 lb beef patties with a special sauce on it.
Happy Thursday and Go Cards!
Jared
Stop Emma Guy and you control BC, IMHO. She gets to the line, rebounds well and gave the Cards front line fits earlier this year. You can do this, Louisville! "Kylee UP" on her.
ReplyDeleteI'll be a late arrival to the game, if I show at all, My foot giving me fits and going back to the doctor later today to see "What now?".
Burger Boy Diner. Some great meals and memories there. I've curbed most of my carnivorous habits as of late, though, and miss that huge powerhouse of a burger.
No lie, I saw a guy eat three of those double stackers and they were fully loaded in one sitting one night. That was a colon crying for mercy the next day I imagine. He kept it real, though, just burgers, no fries and he had a posse watching and apparently wagering on whether he could do it. The things I've seen and remember. I should write a book.

You're killing me Watson. LOL. We stand behind Jared (he's promised me I'd win BOTH contests this year).

Yeah! What Watson said! I'll wear a red garter, too. TMI? Whatever.

It seems obvious to me that, if Dana and E can't go, you start Liz and Kylee inside and play the inside and back out ball Walz talks about. He mentioned B and her knee, so why not let her rest a game also?
ReplyDeleteJaz and Yacine are scorers and Kasa did a very good job at point against Pitt. BC is 17-10 and 10-6 in conference. It's not like they are equal to last year's Notre Dame team.
Any team that loses to Holy Cross, Charlotte and Providence doesn't exactly strike fear into my heart. Virginia Tech handled BC by 21.
BC is destined to play on Thursday of the ACC.
Yes, I am the defending Cardinal Couple ACC WBB Tournament Challenge champion and it's my court, my bracket and my wisdom you have to deal with. You better bring game, that's all I can say. Not backing down.
Nick O.
I had also heaard through certain channels that Jared had been on "double, secret probation" since the start of the season and other photographers had been made aware of this. Sorry, I can't reveal my source. I don't want to lose it.

ReplyDeleteMinor correction, Louisville is playing for the outright conference championship tonight. One win and it's ours.
ReplyDeleteThat fact alone should be enough reason that we come out balling no matter who is and isn't playing. I think we have enough firepower even minus Dana, Elizabeth and/or Bionca.
