Swim Swam to Victory
The Women's Swimming and Diving team swam (and dove) their way to victory yesterday at the SMU Classic in Dallas, TX. This was a 6 team event, and the Cards edged out 2nd place Auburn by 2 points. UofL finished with 333 total points, Auburn at 331; other schools were NorthWestern with 315, Iowa with 242, Miami with 230, and host SMU with 223.
Its very early in the swimming and diving season, so what rankings I can find don't feel very meaningful.
Molly Fears continues to improve on the diving part of the team, getting just barely edged out of the top spot on the podium. The Cards picked up victories in both the A and B finals of the 200 butterfly, with Grace Oglesby winning the A final with a 4 second margin, and Sophie Cattermole winning the B final with a time that would have seen her losing only to Oglesby if it were in the A final. Both swims were NCAA B cuts, establishing both swimmers as early possibilities for the NCAA Championships in the spring. The Cards picked up lots of other second place finishes in events, tallying enough points for the overall team win at the end of the event.
Of course, UofL is competing without recent superstars that have come through the program like Kelsi Dahlia nee Worrell and Mallory Comerford. There are still some swimmers on the squad that have gotten some attention here at Cardinal Couple in the past, including seniors Grace Oglesby, Lainey Visscher, and Sophie Cattermole along with Molly Fears on the Diving side of the house.
When will the next superstar swimmer emerge from this UofL program? It's really not a question of "If", more just a question of "When."
We'll be keeping an eye on it, and in the meantime, cheering this team, and emphasis on team this year, to victory.
Other Stuff
There was a pretty crazy football game in Winston-Salem last night by the sounds of my Twitter timeline. The rumor is that the Cards were victorious there as well. Paulie made the trip to Wake Forest, actually saw Louisville Volleyball in attendance there and hoarsely reports that someway, somehow...the Cards won a wild-west shoot-out 62-59 in the town of cigarettes. .
Wait, I thought it was football?
"Satterdays" are back, and, despite the huge number of points opponents are scoring -- as long as you are out-scoring them you are collecting "W"'s at the end of the contest.

On Tap For Today
Volleyball
The VolleyCards will be looking to make it a pair of wins over Wake Forest this weekend when they meet on the volleyball court at 1pm today. The team did go to the football game last night to support their friends and fellow athletes on the field.
We should get a Louisville victory in Winston-Salem today, while the Demon Deacons are 11-5 overall, they're only 1-4 in conference so far, and their non-conference schedule? Well, it wasn't littered with powerhouse teams. There's a loss to Elon in there, but in conference, while the Deacs did get a win over Syracuse, the Orange don't exactly look like they're playing up to their usual levels this year.
The Deamon's offense mostly runs through #1 Peyton Suess with #14 Caitlyn Della and #10 Caroline Kuhn contributing kills as well. The setter will be #4 Madeline Holt with #2 Caitlin Clark in the Libero jersey. Look for Della and #8 Zoe Gonzalez to provide the strongest presence at the net for blocking.
Soccer
The Soccer squad went north to South Bend and will take the field against Notre Dame. The rankings, as inconsistent as they may be between different sources, suggest that the Cards should be able to come away with a win in this one, with the Cards being ranked from 10th to 16th, and Notre Dame seemingly unranked anywhere.
Hard to believe that there won't be something flying, bouncing or getting moved in some type of fashion on Floyd Street today.

Cardinal Couple Radio Hour
The Cardinal Couple Radio Hour was on the air yesterday, though we were down to just two of us in the studio. Case and I held down the fort and managed to put a decent show together, I believe.
In a move that will shock you, we covered, the past week in UofL Women's Sports with a look ahead to future matchups. Field Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball...the usual suspects were all in the discussion.
I mentioned a non-UofL volleyball match that happened last evening, a top 15 matchup between #13 Creighton, and #10 Marquette in the Big East. Creighton did win that one. Unsurprisingly, the match went 5 sets and there were some extra point sets in the mix. I predicted a good match there, and that's what happened. It can be seen on the Big East's Youtube channel if you have an interest in watching a really great non-UofL volleyball match.
In any case, you can catch the replay of the CCRH, at the usual Facebook Live link:
