Active Weekend for UofL women's sports -- Friday Cardinal Couple

VOLLEYBALL, FIELD HOCKEY ON CAMPUS...SOCCER HITS THE ROAD

The Belknap Campus will be a very busy place starting today with Field Hockey Friday and Sunday, Volleyball Friday and Saturday and football Saturday. Let's look at the Friday action:

FIELD HOCKEY LOOKS TO SETTLE THE SCORE VS VIRGINIA

The Cavs are ranked #6 in the nation and are 4-0 just like Justine Sowry's stick swingers. Louisville looks to deliver a little payback from last season's 3-2 loss in double overtime to UVA in Charlottesville. It's the ACC opener for both schools.

The Cavs come in after defeating Princeton and Rutgers last weekend. They have what many consider to be the best player in the ACC in Tara Vittese...who has four goals and three assists so far this season.

Louisville defeated UC Davis and Cal last weekend on the road and has the nation's best goalkeeper so far in freshman Ayeisha McFerran...who has not been scored upon in 262 minutes of play.

The Cards will look to a balanced scoring attack led by Stephanie Byrne ( 4 goals) and Tess Hannah (3 goals) and hope to have pres-season ACC selection Chile Garcia back in the line up.

Action begins at 6 p.m. in Trager! BE there!

VOLLEYBALL FACES UTAH TONIGHT

Anne Kordes' Wide Netters are 2-3 on the season and face a strong Utah squad in Cardinal Arena tonight at 7:30 p.m. The Cards have faced a strong gauntlet of opponents so far, including nationally ranked Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Utah enters the match with a 5-2 record. They are led by sophomore outside hitter Adora Anae, who averages 4.29 kills a set. The Utes have six players that are 6'2" or taller.

Louisville will look to the triad of Maya McClendon, Janelle Jenkins and Erin Fairs for net success and the prowess of Katie George and freshman Molly Sauer to get the ball in playable position. The Cards look to strengthen their serving over the weekend and middle blockers Maggie DeJong and Tess Clark will be counted upon for knockdowns.

WSOC TAKES A SOUTHERN SWING

Karen Ferguson Dayes women's soccer squad is touring the south this weekend and will face UAB at Bear Field on the UAB campus for a 5:30 p.m. (CDT) match.

The Blazers (1-3) hold a 7-2 advantage over the Cards in the lifetime series. After defeating Austin Peay to start the season, UAB has lost to Memphis, Coastal Carolina and Auburn.

The Kickin' Cards are 2-2-1 this season and knocked off SEMO 2-0 in The Palace earlier this week. Louisville has not allowed an opponent over two goals this season.

                                     *************

Keep in mind Football has their home opener against Houston at noon...so traffic and parking around campus will be at a premium Saturday if you're coming down for Volleyball.
