Louisville head coach Jeff Walz was pleased with the road win but was unhappy with the way Louisville turned the ball over late after building a 23 point lead.
.
"We got careless late and had too many blown opportunities...but I thought it was a nice road win for us."he remarked after the game
.
Walz on starting Asia Taylor this afternoon instead of Becky Burke:
.
"We need to become better defensively. So I started Asia because she plays better defense. I thought she did a really great job for us and Becky was fine coming off the bench.
.
Walz on unforced turnovers:
.
"You gotta value the ball on every possession and we didn't do that during certain times in today's game."
.
Shelby Harper was available for duty today after missing three games with a sprained ankle. She did not see any action, though.
.
It was announced pre-game that Shawnta Dyer will be red shirted this year and will have four years of eligibility left.
.
Thanks for posting Walz's comments - I was wondering about Taylor starting.
ReplyDeleteI have a little different view than Dr. Watson on playing on the road, b/c I don't think the Lady Cards beat any of the top 5 teams in the conference no matter where they play. But the scheduling gods have been good the the Cards this year, as they play the weakest team twice (why does Big East schedule 1 conference foe 2x?), and 3 of 4 other teams in the middle tier (Rutgers, WVA, StJohns) at home, with only 'Cuse on the road. Of the middle tier teams, I think StJohns has the best chance to go 10-6, but the Lady Cards aren't far behind. WVA game is huge, and, I think on ESPN2. PDX Phil
First of all, is today really Saturday Feb. 6, 2011? Nonetheless, great win for the Cards! Also, pretty good write up concerning the game.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Asia, Tia & Monique taking and hitting the close jump shots.
If we can get Mo & Asia hitting the short jumpers consistently this team will be more of a threat on offense. Moreover, glad to see Mo getting more rebounds. If I'm not mistaken, she had several DBL/DBLs in scoring & rebounding last season. In fact, her and Becky really raised their game last year. Hope it continues!
Go Cards!
LOL..Sunday, Feb.6th. was the correct date...it happens sometimes...The Cards won on the road, something we thought was imperative they do sooner or later and one of the things that is going to be key for Louisville will be continued good play for Taylor and Tay. They get a week now to prepare for a very good WVU.
