IRISH BEST CARDS 72-59
A lot on the line for both squads in this one...Louisville securing a top four finish conference with a win, or dropping to fifth with a loss...Notre Dame looking to earn a tie for the conference #1 spot with a win.
The Cards led early on in this one, 15-14... after a quarter...but UofL's shooting accuracy left the Joyce Arena and headed home before the team did, the Cards mustering a "hand-to- forehead", woeful 30% for the contest..and saw their early success fade into a Irish romp...58-40 after three quarters.
This one could have been worse.. the Cards scored the final seven points of the contest
Jayda Curry was the only Card capable of reaching double figures.. .she kept Louisville in it for awhile with 5-10 three point shooting and 19 points...but the excellent trio of Notre Dame's Hildago, Miles and Citron went 12 for 28 from the floor and put in 44 points on the Cards.
Score points and win games...it's a simple formula...59 points is the second lowest point total scored this season by the Cards. Only UConn held the Cards to less ...52 points.
So, Louisville is the #6 seed in the ACC WBB Tournament, they will play the winner of the #11 seed Stanford and #14 seed Clemson contest Wednesday. The Cards play on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. It'll be broadcast on the ACC Network.
We'll have much more on the ACC Tournament in days leading up to the event.
SOFTBALL
The Cards took another loss on Sunday..this one on the diamond at Ulmer Stadium to visiting Northwestern 5-1.
A scoreless contest until the top of the fifth inning, when the Big 10 foe touched Cards starter Alyssa Zabala for all their five runs. The Cards would plate their only run in their final at bat in the bottom of the seventh.
Just five hits for the Cards batters in this one...the Cards end up 3-1 in the Cardinal Classic.
Louisville (14-5) will face Notre Dame next, a Friday contest at 6 p.m. in Ulmer.
