WSOC Falls 2-1 to Wake Forest...Field Hockey, Volleyball today -- SUNDAY CARDINAL COUPLE
KICKIN' CARDS END REGULAR SEASON WITH ROAD LOSS
Any hopes UofL women's soccer had of making the NCAA Tournament took a jolt last night when the Kickin' Cards took a tough 2-1 loss in Winston-Salem to the Demon Deacons.
Louisville (8-8-2, 4-5-1) spotted WFU a 1-0 halftime lead and was down 2-0 with five minutes left in the contest when Lexie Nieboda found Shelby Cohen on a cross that Cohen sent into the end to put the Cards within one.
Louisville had a couple of scoring opportunities in the final minutes...Alison Price getting two one-on-one opportunities against Wake Forest goalie Lindsay Preston but diving saves prevented each from finding net.
The Cards now wait for the NCAA women's Soccer Tournament committee to announce the 64 teams on November 9th. Louisville was 71st in the RPI rankings before the game. UofL is ninth in the conference standings and seventh in the point scoring system for wins, losses and ties.
Would a deeper ACC Tournament down the road be of benefit to teams like Louisville...who did not make the top four teams who will fight it out for the ACC Tournament title?
It's another apparent need for consistency in a conference that invites all the field hockey teams to the ACC Championships, does not hold a Volleyball Championship and seeds the top four schools in basketball automatically to the quarterfinals.

FIELD HOCKEY HONORS THE SENIORS
Field Hockey will have their Senior Day today at noon for the final regular season game against Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights come in at 7-10, 0-8 in conference and off a 2-0 loss at IU Friday.
Louisville is 12-5, 1-5 in the ACC
and is on a five game win streak...most recently defeating Michigan State 5-1 at Trager on Friday.
Megan Anstotz, Vic Stratton, Chile Garcia and Katherine Gwynne-Wood were all monumental in building Louisville Field Hockey to a consistent top-10 ranking in their time here and will be honored in pre-game ceremonies.
The Cards have been seeded #6 in the upcoming ACC Tournament and will face UNC in quarterfinal action.
Today, though...a chance to complete the sweep of the current three-game homestand and to finished undefeated in non-conference play.

VOLLEYBALL LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK
The VolleyCards will look to get back on the winning track when they serve it up in Raleigh, NC against NC State today. Despite the loss to UNC Friday night...the Cards are still tied for the conference lead with Florida State at 10-1.
The Wolfpack are 3-8 in conference and 14-9 overall. Louisville will return home to the KFC YUM! Center for home games Friday and next Sunday.
