Cortnee Walton verbals to Lady Cards...Cards to visit Pendleton, Mission

.
THURSDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

-Cortnee Walton verbals to UofL

-Cards start Canada trip in Oregon

Cortnee Walton, a 6'2" forward from Surprise, AZ. has verballed to the University of Louisville. The #41 prospect in the 2012 recruiting class has decided to call off any other college visits and effectively ended her recruiting timetable.

Walton visited the UofL coaches and campus on August 1st and was impressed with what she saw.

Walton verbals to the Cards
"When I got there and I spent time with the coaching staff and some of the players, it just felt right. I spent a lot of time getting to know them on the phone and when I got there everything was so genuine and I could feel that they truly care about me not only as a player but a person. It was just comfortable and it felt right so I didn't feel the need to see anywhere else." Walton told ESPN HoopGurlz.

Walton will be a senior this season at St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, AZ. She had considered Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, St. John's and Washington before deciding on Louisville. She is Jeff Walz's first commit for the 2012 class.

Walton played with the Arizona Warriors in the FILA Juniors last weekend at the Basketball Academy in Louisville.

The Cards leave today for an extended trip to the West Coast and Canada. They'll stop in Pendleton and Mission, Oregon on Friday..the home of sophomore Shoni Schimmel and freshman Jude Schimmel.

Jude and Shoni return home.
The team will hold an open practice Friday at Blue Mountain Community College from 10 a.m. till noon. After that, the Lady Cards will head over to Eagle's Nest gym in Mission for some activities designed to teach the importance of fitness to area youth. The event will run from 1-3 p.m. and is designed to inspire the children to reach their dreams through hard work in the classroom as well as on the playing field. An autograph and greeting session is scheduled after the event.

The Lady Cards will also tour the Nixyaawii Governance Center and the Tamastslikt Cultural Institute.

The Cards are racking up the frequent flier miles to the west coast and more are on the way. Washington State University has announced they're playing UofL in Pullman December 19th. WSU finished 8th in the Pac 10 Pac 12 last season.

  3. Just watched the practice here in Pendleton, and Jude really stood out--great passing, shooting, and speed really shows as a H.S. Coach sitting next to me was inmpressed with mostly her speed with the ball. Sarah Hammonds looked pretty good despite missing 6 sets of Ft's at the end, I got to talk to her briefly about it lol, she said that was the first time it happened "ever" ha. Overall, I think Lady Cards will be deep. I asked my daughters and their friends if they wanted to leave or stay and try for autographs, they said "stay!!". We did, alot of ppl left, and we were prepared with T's and markers as other ppl were their didnt have anything to sign with, so we were very fortunate. Reading about UL playing WSU is good news! I will be there and PDX. My girls were excited and I was pumped to get to meet Coach Walz.--Umatilla23
