As usual, Jared is all over the campus with seven topics he addresses in today's write. And, none of them are women's basketball. Grab a coffee (or a beer) and try to keep up.
Mother Nature reminded us of her cruelty yesterday as Louisville was cursed with a steady rain almost all day yesterday. Due to the weather, Louisville softball vs Kentucky was postponed. The make-up date has not yet been determined, but there's whispers it will be a weeknight in the next couple weeks.
Weekend Sports
With no softball victory to recap, we can keep today's post short and sweet, but we will at least take a brief look into weekend happenings both on and off campus.
Softball
Don't worry, softball won't be gone long. They'll be back in action tomorrow night to start a three-game series against North Carolina this weekend. Except for Sunday, the rest of the weekend looks chilly and wet so be prepared for game time changes.
The Cards are 19-15 on the year with a 3-6 conference record. The Tar Heels are 19-17 overall and 4-8 in the ACC. UofL and UNC split a four-game series last season with the altered COVID-19 schedule.
Lacrosse
Looking to get back to .500, Louisville lacrosse heads to Pitt for the first time ever. In their inaugural season, the Panthers are 6-7 on the year but sit at 0-6 in conference play.
Six of the nine ACC teams are ranked in the Top 25 in the Inside Lacrosse Poll. Seven teams are ranked in the Top 25 in the Coaches Poll, with Louisville coming in at #25. With those rankings effective April 3, the Louisville win against Vanderbilt was not included.
Track and Field
Louisville track and field is in Knoxville for the Tennessee Relays beginning today and running through Saturday. The first two days will be aired on SEC Network+. If you pay for ESPN+ then you should be able to access the stream without paying anything extra.
UofL has not released a list of which student-athletes will competing in which event, although it is expected see several women's athletes involved in various events.
Historically under Dale Cowper, Louisville women's field portion has fared extremely well ranging from shot put to pole vault and many more. The long distance races have also seen a fair amount of success. Louisville's weakness has often been sprints, but have continued to improve each year.
Volleyball
If you're eager to see fall sports in action, Louisville volleyball is staying local on Saturday. They'll begin the day at KIVA for the KIVA College Showcase. KIVA is in my neck of the woods near the Louisville Zoo and Louisville Mega Cavern.
The Cards will migrate to campus from there as they play Tennessee in a spring friendly inside the LNFCU Arena at 6:00 p.m.
Field Hockey
Welcome to the Big Ten? Louisville field hockey will head up to Ann Arbor, Mich. this weekend where they will face five Big Ten teams, many of whom the Cards have faced in the last two years.
With the women's basketball season over, why not check out a sport you might not be as familiar with? Trust me, all of these Cardinals sports teams are incredibly fun to watch either in person or online.
Happy Thursday and Go Cards!
Jared
Last night was going to be my first trip to Ulmer. Hope I'm able to make the rescheduled game.
