Louisville women's golf wins CARDINAL CUP...Volleyball tonight! -- Wednesday CARDINAL COUPLE

LONG, RESTREPO LEAD CARDS ON FINAL DAY TO FOURTH STRAIGHT CARDINAL CUP

Louisville women's golf shook off ACC nemesis Florida State in the final round and rolled to a 11 stroke, first place finish in the CARDINAL CUP yesterday at the UofL Golf Club.

Freshman Lexie Long made a early charge to position herself among the leaders and had the Cards lowest 72 hole total with a 215...which tied her for third overall in the field. Laura Restrepo remained consistent and finished a stroke back of Long to gather a fifth place finish. Katie Mitchell toured the three rounds with a 220 and Olivia Cason gave the Cards another top twenty finisher with a 221 over the Simpsonville course. 

The Cards were only one stroke ahead going into Tuesday's action but gradually separated themselves from the rest of the field. 

Florida State held second against a Chattanooga squad that tied Louisville for the lowest final day round at 294. Wisconsin and Virginia Tech rounded out the top five. 

The Cards will held to Kiawah Island, SC for their next event...participating in the three-day Palmetto Invitational on the Turtle Point Golf Club links.

VOLLEYBALL LOOKS TO EXTEND WIN STREAK AGAINST IRISH TONIGHT

Anne Kordes' wide-netters look to make it nine in a row and remain undefeated in ACC Volleyball play when they host the Notre Dame Fighting' Irish tonight in a 7 p.m. match at the KFC YUM! Center. 

Louisville and Florida State sit atop the ACC standings with perfect 8-0 records. These two won't have a showdown until November 15th. in Tallahassee...so each contest leading to it is important in terms of holding the top spot and securing NCAA Tournament chances in a conference that doesn't hold a Volleyball championship tournament.

This will be the second meeting this season between the two squads...Louisville sweeping the Irish in South Bend back on Sept. 25th. Erin Fairs led the Cards with 17 kills in the match. 

Tonight concludes the home-stretch for Louisville Volleyball. The Cards face a pivotal three-game road trip that takes them to Virginia, North Carolina and NC State.

- We have tenative plans for 2016 to offer a $1000 partial scholarship to a UofL women's sports student-athlete that embodies the "joy and excitement" of UofL women's sports and backs it up in the classroom with academic excellence.
