TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE
( OUR JEFF MCADAMS GRABS THE NINE IRON, GOES FOR A PENALTY CORNER, CREATES A SET AND TIGHTENS HIS STRINGS IN TODAY'S CARDINAL COUPLE REPORT. YOU CAN HEAR HIS WEEKLY RECAPS AND THOUGHTFUL COMMENTARY ON OUR WEEKLY RADIO SHOW AT WWW.CRESCENTHILLRADIO.COM)
A quiet early week for the women of Cardinal athletics.
Golf
The golf team is the only women's team competing during the week, at the Alamo Invitation in San Antonio, TX, but that event continues through today, so we have no final results to share. Early results...posted after Sunday's play...has our very own Laura Restrepo in the individual lead after shooting a first round 67. Other Louisville golfers were in 39th, 49th, and two tied in 63rd. Overall the team was in 10th place.
Soccer
Early week sees the release of conference honors. In Women's Soccer, freshman goalkeeper Taylor Smith earned a spot on the American Conference honor roll for her second-half and overtime efforts in Louisville's 5-4 win over Cincinnati. Taylor earned her first career win in the game.
Volleyball
Stop me if you've heard this one before. Maya McClendon earned Freshman of the Week honors in the American for her two double doubles, and double-digit kills in all three matches UofL played this past week. Maya is in second place in kills per set in conference with 3.58.
Emily Juhl earned an honor roll placement. Emily has been on an absolute tear recently. I think she just likes playing in the northeast...we'll see when they play at Temple, Friday night. You have to go back to the Wichita State match, which we lost in 5 sets, to find a match where she hit less than .333. She hit a phenomenal-for-an-outside-hitter .455 against UConn in the match Sunday afternoon, following up a stellar .528 on 21 kills in the Friday night match against Rutgers. To top it off, thanks to Haley Pouliezos hurting her thumb in warm-ups before the Rutgers match, Emily played all six rotation in the last two matches and picked up 13 digs against Rutgers and 11 against UConn.
Lacrosse
The Louisville Lacrosse team finished up fall play with the Duke Fall Invitational in North Carolina. The Cards went 4-0 in the tournament, with games consisting of two 25 minutes halves. Opponents for Louisville were first-year team Michigan, High Point, host Duke, and Winthrop.

Louisville W. Soccer made it into the top 25. Congratulations to Coach Karen Ferguson Dayes and the hard working girls on the team.

That's not the typical NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) poll that is usually quoted, but an alternate poll does have us at #25.
DeleteWe are getting votes in the NSCAA poll (basically 28th), and the NCAA's RPI has us at #19.
Regardless, I'm thrilled that they're starting to get some recognition on the national level.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention, Curtis!
