Saturday Cardinal Couple -- Softball goes 1-1 in Orlando

SATURDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

- Softball falls 2-0 to Texas, defeats Temple 8-0

- Lacrosse with a Rocky Mountain "High" in Denver

-Women's swimming/diving #1 after Day 3 of Big East Tournament

-CARDINAL COUPLE on the air.

The softball Cards got the bats rolling against Temple but ran into a strong pitching performance from Texas' Blaire Luna in Day 1 of the 2013 Citrus Classic in Orlando, FL. Friday.

TEXAS 2 - CARDS 0

Scoreless after two innings, the Longhorns strung together three singles in the third to go up 1-0 on Louisville. They added a run in the fifth on a two-out walk and Louisville fielding error.

Luna held the Cards bat at bay...keeping them hitless until seventh inning. Katie Keller smashed a two-out double and Alicja Wolny reached first on a hit-by-pitch to give the Cards a shot in the inning but Luna got her 13th strike out of the day to end the rally and the game.

Caralisa Connell took the loss (8-2) two runs, one earned and seven hits allowed.

CARDS 8 - Temple 0

Louisville struck early in the second game of the day for them with two runs in the first inning. Keller singled and scored on Alicja Wolny's double (she didn't get hit by a pitch!). Wolny made it home on a Hannah Kiyohara single.

The Cards added three more runs in the fourth. Singles by Jennifer Esteban, Keller and Katelyn Mann scored Esteban and a error got Keller to the plate. Taner Fowler's base hit sent Mann home to make it 5-0 UofL.

UofL added three runs in the fifth to end the game. Kiyohara led off with a single, Whitney Arion walked and Chrisanna Roberts got hit by a pitch to load the bases full of Cards. Kiyohara scored when Keller got hit by a pitch (stop the violence!) Mann singled home Arion and a based-loaded walk to Wolny forced home Roberts (although she probably went willingly) to make it 8-0 and end the game.

Rachel LeCoq with the win (5-1) allowing four hits.

Cards get Ga. Tech tomorrow on ESPN3 at 12:15 p.m. Tune it in after listening to CARDINAL COUPLE from 11-noon on CRESCENT HILL RADIO

It'll be their second game of the day...they start Saturday versus Longwood University.

Louisville has outscored their opponents by an average of +9.67 a game in their three wins and Nikki Boltja leads the team with 11 goals.

    1. Thanks, it was a lot of fun, and more than a little nerve-wracking to start. Hopefully next week I won't have a nagging cough screwing up my voice.

For anyone that missed it, the show is available on soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/crescenthillradio/cardinal-couple-03-02-13.

We're pretty excited about this, and are looking for ideas and suggestions for improving the show. Kathy at Crescent Hill Radio is giving Paulie some pointers (and a loaner digital recorder) to get some better audio to get sound clips into the show that are a lot less garbled than what we had this week.

    2. Just finished listening to it while watching CARDINAL softball defeat Ga.Tech. Thanks, Blue Lou! It was a lot of fun and looking forward to next Saturday. We still have things to learn...but I want to express to my co-hosts Jeff and Jenny my thanks to for being there with me, basically carrying me throughout the show and their participation. Couldn't have...and wouldn't have wanted to...do it without you two. Mucho props!

Any suggestions are much appreciated. We are also LOOKING FOR A SPONSOR. Please w-mail me at cardinalcouple@insightbb.com if you'd like info...sponosrship is dirt cheap and money goes to help this non-profit radio station, so it's a good thing for you to do.

  2. I couldn't figure out how to listen (because I'm an old guy who is technologically-challenged). Which player or platform should I have used? I tried a couple (can't remember which ones) and nothing seemed to work.

    1. I'm tossing this one to Jeff...I'm techno challenged as well. I think I'm on Windows Media Player...but Jeff can probably give you good info here.

Thanks for trying, though, Mike and catch it on SoundCloud.

    2. You can just go to the Crescent Hill Radio website http://www.crescenthillradio.com at listen to it through your web browser directly from the website I believe. It looks like they've got a couple of options for using other media players to play it as well, but the easiest is probably to just let your browser handle it directly.

The soundcloud link above is similar...it should just play in your browser without having to deal with an external audio player.

  4. Good news from South Orange. Seton Hall beat St. Johns, giving the Cards a double bye in the Big East tourney regardless of the result against Syracuse on Monday.

  5. Has anyone noticed Jeff putting together more athletic team plus snuck in davianna future. Looks bright.

    1. Could you elaborate on what you are talking about? Not understanding the putting together more athletic team part.

    2. I can't speak directly for the poster who made this statement, but my guess is that with Emmonnie Henderson coming on board...Walz out looking at possible 2014 and 2015 wide body posts in his recruiting stops and with Walton and Hammond...he's beginning to add some girls who can hold their own in the paint and compete against the BIG EAST teams that have 1-2 of them on their roster.

You'll see it Monday night. Syracuse has Tyson-Thomas and Alexander, who are rebounding assassins. Seton Hall had a couple of brusiers. Seems like all the BIG EAST teams do...and Walz is big on rebounding.

      Just my two cents worth.
