Jayda Curry Joins UofL WBB -- Softball Standings -- TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

Jayda Curry Transfers to Louisville Women's Basketball

With the official start of the postseason for all teams, Jeff Walz has already worked his magic. Louisville women's basketball picked up a transfer from California in Jayda Curry. The 5-6 point guard has two years of eligibility remaining.

Although there was an early report that Jayda Curry is related to NBA player Steph Curry, those reports turned out to be false. There is no known relation between the two.

During her freshman campaign in the 2021-2022 season, Curry was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshmen Team. She led the conference in scoring with 18.6 points per game.

In her sophomore season, Curry was named an an honorable mention for the Pac-12 Team by the coaches. She ranked sixth in the conference and first on the team in scoring with 15.5 points per game. Curry is the second fastest player in Cal history to reach 500 points.

Curry joins a Louisville roster that currently lacks depth for next season. As of right now, the returners for next season include Hailey Van Lith (rising senior), Olivia Cochran (rising senior), Merissah Russell (rising senior), Nyla Harris (rising sophomore), Alexia Mobley (rising redshirt sophomore), and Imani Lester (rising redshirt freshman)

Another "get" from Cal. Remember Kianna Smith? Welcome to "the Ville" Jayda and enjoy our program and town. .

ACC Softball Standings

A game three cancellation at Syracuse more than likely took away a chance for another win for Louisville softball. The Cards have won nine straight conference games since starting ACC play with a pair of losses at Duke. The 9-2 (.818) record is enough to put the Cards in third play in the conference at the moment. A win would've improved their record to 10-3, still third place, while a loss would've dropped Louisville to 9-3 and been in a tie for third with Virginia Tech.

#5 Clemson remains perfect in conference play at 12-0. The Tigers are 36-1 on the season with their only loss being a 1-0 neutral site loss to Tennessee.

#7 Florida State is 8-1 (.889) in the ACC and sitting comfortably in second. The Seminoles are 2907 on the year. FSU and Clemson play each other this coming weekend.

#12 Virginia Tech is 9-3 (.750) in conference play. The 2022 ACC Champions are 27-8 on the year and recently fell in a series against Duke.

#13 Duke (10-5, .667) and Virginia (6-6, .500) make up the rest of the teams in the ACC at or above the .500 mark.

Notre Dame (5-6-1, .458), North Carolina (4-8, .333), and NC State (4-8, .333) are in the next grouping in the conference.

The bottom dwellers in the ACC are Pirr (2-7, .222), Georgia Tech (2-10, .167), Syracuse (1-9-1, .136), and Boston College (1-8, .111).

Louisville has a favorable conference schedule this year. The Cards already have series wins against Pitt, NC State, and Syracuse. Notre Dame, Virginia, and Boston College all remain on the schedule with all three being at or below .500 in the ACC. Louisville does close out the regular season at FSU.

The Cards return home to host Notre Dame for a Thursday-Saturday series at Ulmer Stadium.

CONGRATULATIONS KAREN J. !!!

The winner of the 2023 NCAA WBB Cardinal Couple Pick 'Em is....drum roll, please... Karen J. She survived a four-way tie for first place on championship night because her total points prediction was closest to the actual score. Jared came in second.

If this looks like the same results for our ACC Pick 'Em...it was.

So, since Paulie never saves anything, Karen J, paging Karen J to send Paulie an email at cardinalcouple@twc.com and notify him WHICH prize you'd like (the $25 gift card to Cracker Barrel or the $25 gift card to Starbucks) and where to mail it to.

Happy Tuesday and Go Cards!

Jared

  1. Curry is a great addition to the Cards and could become the third scoring threat along wit Van Lith and Cochran for the Cards. Rumors are out that there is another "new Card" to be announced maybe today? What do you say, Mr. Portal?

The way-too-early ACC 2023-24 ACC WBB predictions have Louisville WBB fifth? I guess they start drinking pretty early in the ACC offices...probably from the same folks who assured us the final game would have South Carolina facing Stanford.

    1. Way to early for predictions that are surely based on current players only.

  2. Personally sick and tired of one year portal players.
Actually, sick and tired of the portal PERIOD.
We've lost the continuity we've been enjoying over the last years.

  3. Hello Friends !
    Arthur Here !

That's a great pick up for Walz and the Cards in Curry. She's a shooting guard, too, so I would assume Walz is still looking for a point guard that is pass-first, score-second.

I'm hearing great things from a couple off our basketball in the know guys about Taina Mair out of Boston College. I remember when she played my Clemson Tigers this year, we got the win up at BC but Mair led the Eagles in points, assists and (unfortunately for her) turnovers that night. I guess the thing is, she's looking for a program that'll get her to an NCAA Tournament trip. We aren't that team.

For my Tigers' sake, I hope the Cards aren't interested. But, she'd make a great addition for somebody...they say Joanna Bernabei-McNamee the head coach up there tends to run 'em off pretty quickly...you look at who left the Eagles after last season... they had seven enter the portal.

Good luck to both of us in the portal and looks like we're stuck with Amanda a few more years, she re-signed through 2027 on a contract extension. Great...

Oh,well...we got Softball and Lacrosse...they triple the attendance of what Clemson WBB brings in and both are fun atmospheres, unlike the "gloom and doom" vibe in Littlejohn for WBB.
