I am looking forward to cheering on the Volleyball squad this evening and I know Jeff looks forward to giving the seniors a proper send-off in hopes of securing a share of the ACC title in the last regular season home match of the season.

Its Senior Day in the Ville for the Volleyball program as the squad looks to get some payback on the Pitt Panthers. The Cards suffered their second loss on the season in a 5-set thriller back on October 23 at Pittsburgh.

Six members of the program will be recognized on the court after the match. Outside hitter Claire Chaussee, defensive specialist Alexa Hendricks, setter Raquel Lazaro, middle blocker Amaya Tillman, outside hitter Nena Mbonu.. manager Paul Harvey will also be honored.

In honor of the Seniors, featured below are Jared's favorite pics of each... Enjoy!

The Cards are currently 24-2 on the season and 15-1 in ACC play with two matches left in regular season after two road wins this past weekend.

Chaussee lead the Cards with 17 kills in the previous meeting with the Panthers.   Mbonu added 14 kills and a block. Lazaro had a match-high 42 assists and libero Elena Scott had a match-high 14 digs. Aiko Jones added four aces, seven blocks and 11 kills.

The grad senior from Wisconsin, Chaussee, is coming off another career-high performance against Georgia Tech with 27 kills while hitting .317 and will be looking to close out her career at home on a high note.

In the first meeting, the Panthers got 22 kills from Courtney Buzzerio who added five blocks to her stat total. Serena Gray tallied 15 kills and five blocks.

The positives for the Cards is that they showed some serious resilience in the last matchup with the Panthers and are looking to avoid having to dig themselves out of a hole.    Anna Debeer has returned to the lineup for the Cards after being absent in the first meeting.   She is not 100% back to health but had three big swings from the back row for the Cards that showed some improvment.  UofL also has a great home court advantage!

Pitt will be looking to make a statement as they look to secure a share of the ACC title. The Panthers have 2 losses on their record from earlier in the season. Towson and #25 San Diego. UofL beat then #15 San Diego on Sept 2 at L&NFCU.

Pitt currently has some great active streaks...  Pitt has won 15 consecutive road matches, the longest active streak in the country. Overall, the Panthers have won 18 matches in a row, the third longest active streak in the country, and the longest among Power 5 schools. Pitt is the only Power 5 team with an undefeated conference record. Pitt is 4-0 against Top 10 opponents this season, taking wins at then #7 BYU, #5 Ohio St., at #10 Georgia Tech and #2 Louisville.

The Panthers moved to 25-2 on the season and 15-0 in ACC play.  Pittsburgh won their lone match over the weekend with a 3-0 win against Syracuse 25-14, 25-18, and 25-15 on Friday night.  Buzzerio, the 6-5 right side, notched seven kills, one ace, one block, and one dig and leads the team with 339 kills, 25 aces, 68 blocks, and 77 digs on the season.   Against Syracuse, Gray recorded six kills hitting .857, one block, and three digs.  Gray leads the team in blocks on the season with 103.

This will be the 32nd all-time meeting between Pitt and UofL.   Louisville leads the all-time series, 17-14.

For fun ...

SOFTBALL
The University of Louisville softball team will host the 2023 Grand Slam Social on January 22 in the Hickman Camp Room at the KFC Yum! Center at 11 a.m.

The program fundraiser and season kickoff event will begin two hours prior to the Cardinals' nationally-ranked women's basketball team's ACC matchup against NC State which is slated to tip-off at 1 p.m.

This year's event will serve as an opportunity for fans to meet head coach Holly Aprile and the 2023 squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.

It costs $25 and includes a full buffet, player and coach meet-and-greet, poster, autographs, face painting and a photo booth as well as admission to UofL's game against the Wolfpack.

**Sounds like a fun opportunity to support many Cardinals in Downtown Louisville!

A quick get well soon to Paul!  Looking forward to getting back out to the Yum! Center for some games once he is feeling better!

As Always,
Go Cards!

  1. Mbonu is listed as RS Junior. Has she decided to graduate and move on, maybe transfer? She’s done a great job this season, and will be missed.
