Payton Verhulst Top 25 List -- Cards Softball Schedule 2021 -- WEDNESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

CARDS COMMITT PAYTON VERHULST NAMED TO 2021 NAISMITH GBB TOP 25 MIDSEASON WATCH LIST

2021 University of Louisville womens basketball commit Payton Verhulst, a 6'1" guard out of Bishop Miege High School (Roeland Park, KS) has been named to the Jersey Mike's Girls Naismith Top 25 Midseason Watch List.

Yes! Another guard taller that Sam Purcell !

Verhulst, a 6'1" guard, is considered one of the top guards in the nations and brings a solid mid-range shooting touch plus "must-be-respected" three-point skills to the court. Being a taller guard, she creates match-up dilemmas for opponents and  excels in either the half-court or transition, fast-break style of game.  She's also a shot-blocker and proficient at steals.

In the 2020-21 season, she's leading the Bishop Miege squad to a 6-0 record so far.

Congratulations to future Card Payton and keep up thee impressive senior season !

And, as an add-on, we'll bring you the latest CARDINAL WBB schedule alteration. It seems UNC wants to play on Jan 28th now against the Cards. It's a (for now) scheduled 7 p.m. Thursday game at the KFC YUM! Center. What's the chances of this time around actually taking place?  Also, 7 p.m. starts usually mean RSN or ACC Network Extra viewing options -- boo on both. Louisville is the #2 team in college women's basketball and if they can't get a ACC Network or ESPN game outta this, someone isn't trying hard enough.

Cardinal Couple Intern and Golf Cart Valet Timmy
could  have a big game against the Cards WBB squad

And, finally, our illustrious photographer and bon vivant Jared Anderson is trying to arrange a game between the CARDINAL COUPLE COLUMNIST and the Cards WBB squad. We haven't heard back from Coach Walz on a game. We probably won't. MY THOUGHTS ?  I'll face them in pop-a-shot, I used to be pretty good at that, and if we get too-big a lead on the Cards, we don't want to hand them a loss, so we'll let Jared shoot and Daryl keep score...

2021 LOUISVILLE SOFTBALL SCHEDULE RELEASED

We found out yesterday what Louisville Softball's schedule looks like for the 2021 season and it features an entire month of March home at Ulmer Stadium and hosting the ACC Tournament  in May..

The Cards get things underway on Feb 13th, when they play in the two-day South Carolina Tournament in Columbia SC. Following that, they go to the ACC Pod Weekend (Feb 18-21) where they'll face NC State for three games in Raleigh and then two games vs. Virginia in Durham. UofL ends February with an appearance in Gainesville to face Florida on Feb 27th.

March actions starts with Miami (Ohio) coming to town on March 6th and 7th. There is a game planned for March 13th, but the opponent hasn't been named yet. Then the Clemson Tigers come to Ulmer four four games starting March 19th. Next up is Virginia Tech and they'll play the Cards four times March 26-28.

Louisville travels to Pitt four a four-game set from April 2-4. The Cards come home to host Kentucky on April 7th. It's off to Atlanta after that for a series against the Ga Tech Yellow Jackets April 9-11. Duke visits Louisville April 16-18 and the Cards go to Lexington to face UK on April 21st. FSU comes to Ulmer Stadium April 23rd through 25th and the Cards end April and begin in Boston against the Eagles April 30 - May 2nd for four games on Derby 2021 weekend.

The Cards end the conference schedule at North Carolina May 7-9 and then it's back to Ulmer Stadium to host the 2021 ACC Tournament beginning May 12th.

The COVID Pandemic has affected the 2021 season. Four game series' against opponent cut down on travel and the ACC/Big 10 Challenge has been cancelled. And, the virus could dramatically affect the schedule is the pandemic is still in full force -- like we've seen in basketball -- but, let's stay optimistic and hope for the best and games getting played.

As we get closer to Softball season, we'll endeavor to get you much more Softball new and interviews with Coach Holly and her student-athletes. In the age of Microsoft Sports on-line interviews, we try to do the best we can in keeping you up with Cardinal women's athletics...

Have a wise and wonderful Wednesday!
