Louisville women's basketball -- Crack open the six pack...it's Time to believe...TUESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

WALZ'S CARDS READY FOR THE BATTLES

Good morning, Bobbie! I start with salutations to my friend up north...because I know she'll read this, like she does every morning. Quite like the Cards are, Bobbie's a battler and makes her way to the KFC YUM! Center to see her beloved Cardinals despite the considerable distance and inclement weather.

She believes, you see...and if you believe, nothing is over and all things are possible.

Louisville women's basketball believed Sunday. Believed that they could defeat the #3 Irish. From a technical and overall perspective, the Cards did defeat the Irish in many aspects of the game, score notwithstanding...

Believe that the Cards were the better team on the court for 36 minutes...I think even Muffet McGraw would acknowledge that. Just as Louisville came on strong to defeat NC State in the delightful Holiday Gym in Broughton, NC at the end...UND found a way to silence the Cards in the waning moments in the Bucket. The Cards fought hard. Now, it's time to fight even harder.

We believe that Louisville showed they could go toe to toe with the nation's best and deliver staggering blows. They may have lost a swagger step or two...which can easily be regained...but they lost nothing in terms of respect and catching a nation's heart on national TV as a team that doesn't back down.

We called the Cards win streak "climbing aboard the redemption train". With six games left before the ACC Tournament, we believe we'll retire that one and adopt a new moniker for the remainder of the regular season.

How about?

FINISH THE SIX PACK

It starts with a trip to the Peterson Center Thursday...where the Cards will face one of "the foundation teams in the ACC structure" (hence...bottom of the league) Pitt Panthers. It's been a topsy-turvy last four for Susie McConnell Serio's felines...a victory at Virginia, downed by Duke, a close win at Clemson and whomped by Wake Forest. The Panthers and Cards face each other twice this season...Pitt being the final of the six-pack again at the end of February.

No time to lament what could have been. As Louisville Football Coach John L. Smith said many years ago...

"It's time to tear off the rear view mirror and concentrate on where you're going instead of where you've been."

Unfortunately, we don't believe the #12 Cards can crack the six-pack atop the current NCAA WBB standings...but they can crack a few opponents open as they play for the double bye in the ACC Tournament and right to host the 1st and 2nd round NCAA games. As Louisville as shown in the past, it doesn't matter where you start, the Final Four is reachable from anywhere.

For you men's BB fans out there that are still lamenting the fact that Pitino's bunch won't be a part of March Madness...c'mon over and spend March following the women's squad. Why not start early and be a February fan? South Florida visits on Feb. 15th and a re-match with Virginia the 18th.

You won't regret it and we firmly believe you just might have some fun in the process. It's time to have a little fun, finish the six pack and march into March.

Two-time defending conference champion Florida State was picked to win the league with nine first place votes after finishing the 2015 season with a 48-12 overall record and a 20-3 mark in ACC play. Notre Dame received 92 points and two first-place votes to stand at second in the preseason poll. The Irish are coming off of a 42-15 campaign and went 17-6 in the conference last season and finished third in the ACC.

Louisville and North Carolina State tied for third with 74 points each. The Cardinals finished the 2015 season with a 30-19 overall record and went 16-7 to finish fourth in the ACC. The Cardinals went on to make their 12th consecutive NCAA regional appearance.

  1. I/We think the USF game which starts at 9 p.m. should be designated "Wear your pajamas to the game day."

  2. Either that or bring a blanket and pillow to the YUM night

  3. After review of the game a third time it was losing Myisha and the poor shooting that cost the Cards this one. Two things I did not like. Things to like were shutting down the Irish three point game and keeping a lead as long as Louisville did. Brave effort Cards, Let's hope there is no slump against Pitt. Finish the six pack? I like it Paulie
