Atlanta Dream Visiting? and V'Ball Lands a star -- Saturday Cardinal Couple

Atlanta Dream reps to meet with Media before Virginia game

Sunday is going to be a busy day down at the KFC YUM! Center. Not only are the WBB Cards hosting ACC opponent Virginia at 3 p.m...but a immediate release media advisory hit our inbox here at Cardinal Couple Thursday indicating that we should:

Please join representatives from the Atlanta Dream, including Shoni Schimmel, for a special announcement prior to the UofL WBB game at 2:15 p.m. The press conference is open to members of the media only.

( Whew...we barely squeaked in there on that last sentence...thank God for Worldwide Jeff !!! )

Atlanta Dream player Shoni Schimmel, Head Coach Michael Cooper, President & General Manager Angela Taylor and KFC YUM! Center event spokesperson Robbie Valentine will be available for questions and individual interviews.

We've debated the issue that could possibly be presented here at this pow-wow, e-mailed Ira Green, the affable WBB asst. SID to see if he'd leak us any advance scoop on it (no reply yet) and have come up with our own 10 things this could possibly be concerning. With no further adieu....here they are:

10)  Cooper is going to make a public confession that he should have started Shoni more.

9)  Cooper is going to reveal that Shoni beat him in a game of HORSE last Thursday.

8)  The Dream is moving the franchise to Louisville.

7)  Angela Taylor has moved to Louisville and is running for Lt. Gov. to replace Jerry Abramson.

6)  Robbie Valentine has had a sex change and is suiting up for the Dream in 2015.

5)  The four are recording an album and will tour it nationwide...the first stop being the KFC YUM! Center.

4)  They found an extra semester of eligibility for Shoni and she'll be suiting up to play against Virginia.

3)  The four are entering into one of the weirdest marriages one could ever envision...

2)  They'll be presenting evidence that the Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix (whatevers) conspired to fix the 2014 WNBA season and the championship title will be awarded to Atlanta.

1)  The Dream might be playing a game on Denny Crum Court.

Someone will tweet out the news before we'll post in on the website. Place your bets, place your bets...windows close at 2:14 p.m. Sunday.

VOLLEYBALL GETS A TRANSFER

Anne Kordes has hooked herself a good one when South Florida junior outside hitter Erin Fairs announced she'll be transferring to Louisville to play her senior season.

Fairs was named first-team All-Conference for the Bulls and led the team in kills, digs and points last season. She led the team in kills her sophomore and freshman years also.

The 5'11" outside hitter hails from Houston and Coach Kordes is impressed:

" I could not be more excited to welcome Erin to the Louisville Volleyball program. Erin had a standout career at USF as an outside hitter and will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact in our line-up"

She has also had over 1000 digs in her career...something that had to impress Kordes as well.

Don't forget to tune in for CARDINAL COUPLE RADIO HOUR
on WCHQ 100.9 FM and on the internet at www.crescenthillradio.com today at 11 a.m.

Worldwide and I will be discussing hoops, lacrosse, volleyball and player and coach reaction to the win over NC State...plus much more!

It's the most unpredictable hour of radio out there. What else would you expect with a monk, dog and pumpkin in the control booth and a renaissance man and village idiot behind the microphones?

  1. That Top Ten is great! I'll take #1 although based on their historical attendance in ATL #8 makes some sense for them too. Will be cool have Shoni back home officially reping her pro team. Too bad Angel is still over in Turkey. For those old enough to remember how great Cooper was it will be pretty special to have him in the building too.

If and when they play in Louisville I'm betting it will be the highest attended game for their season.

  2. Paulie? You forgot one. #1 should be that all four are going to admit that UofL sports have the third best program in the state. Also, which one of you is the village idiot?

My guess is it has to be you.

  3. Whoa Ms. Gov...kinda feisty this morning, huh? I guess I'd be a bit on edge too if my kittens needed the refs to bail them out against an under .500 SEC foe that had only won a single conference game. Thank God the zebras laid four fouls on three of the Gator ballers and gave your kitties 13 more free throws. Gotta love that home cookin.

By the way don't come back here bagging our our Cards for their three point shooting when you goofs throw up 22 threes and can only drop 3. Gotta go down to junior high ball to find crews wearing real color coordinated team uniforms that shoot 13% on threes. Your kids just used up a bunch of your luck on that one.

  4. I'm sure #1 is the most likely to happen, but I've been saying for years now that I have tens if not hundreds of dollars to invest in making something like #8 to happen. I think a WNBA team in Louisville would be the second profitable team for that league and unlike an NBA would easily slot into the busy Yum Center schedule...

    1. Yep. I hope the UofL and Dream marketing folks are working up a great promotion for that game. If they can handle the branding challenges they'll sell a TON of hats / shirts / hoodies with the Angel / Shoni / Card / Dream tie in. Would be huge.
