UofL Sports Year concludes
As we frequently point out, Cardinal Couple is primarily about UofL Women's Athletics, but we're fans of all UofL Sports.
And so it is with some degree of sadness that we report that the 2014-2015 UofL Sports Year has come to a close. With a 4-1 loss against Texas in the College World Series, UofL Baseball is eliminated and returns home. The second straight year that UofL has left Omaha after playing only two games, but in that, there is something to be proud of in a return trip to The CWS, a feat that no other school accomplished this year.
And so, with a palates cleansed, we can turn and look forward to new competition in The Atlantic Coast Conference. No more will various of us have to keep correcting Paulie that Field Hockey and Lacrosse weren't playing in The American Conference and were still in The Big East. No more will we have to fret about whether our non-conference schedules have been tough enough to show our strength in sports like Volleyball, Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Soccer, Baseball and Softball.
The ACC era of UofL Sports officially begins July 1st, but you have my permission to start thinking
of UofL as being a member of The ACC now...I know I certainly will. Our logo isn't yet on the website masthead, and likely won't be until the official switch on July 1, and I'm OK with that. Big bureaucratic organizations have to do things by the books, but we don't have to.

I'd love to hear in comments what ACC competition your most looking forward to. I'm excited for North Carolina and Duke in Volleyball, and Notre Dame has always been great to compete with at the wide net. In Women's Soccer, North Carolina also stands out as a must-see game...so imagine my disappointment to see that they aren't on the schedule this year.
While I'm a true blue through and through fan of the sport of Volleyball, I must admit that I'm most intrigued to see how Louisville stands up to the ACC competition in Lacrosse. As I've learned more about this sport, I've enjoyed watching it more and more, and the opportunity to see more of the cream of the crop has me giddy with anticipation.
We're only about two months away from the start of play (Soccer has an exhibition game August, 13th), and many of the athletes are already on campus doing workouts and even some actual practice sessions as well as camps. It'll be here before you know it.

I'm not saying the outcome would have been any different but there were a couple of botched calls by the officials that would have changed the final score. One was Corey Ray being called out at first when he was clearly safe, he would have later scored based on the hitting that followed and the number of outs we would have had. The other was when a Texas player was clearly out at second base and the call was safe. He later scored.
ReplyDeleteOh well, can't cry over spilt milk. There's always next year. Unfortunately, that is becoming the motto for our baseball and softball teams.
This will probably not surprise you, I am most looking forward to basketball and Volleyball season, especially basketball. I anticipate seeing new talent in our conference each year, but this year I anticipate with joy the opportunity to study some of the older players of the ACC that I do not know.
