Spring Signing Day
Yesterday opened the Signing Period for several sports that we follow here on Cardinal Couple.
Women's Soccer, by the end of the day, announced their 2014 Freshmen class of 12 players. Field Hockey shared a number of announcements of individual signings via their Twitter account but hasn't made an announcement announcing the full class.
Women's Soccer, by the end of the day, announced their 2014 Freshmen class of 12 players. Field Hockey shared a number of announcements of individual signings via their Twitter account but hasn't made an announcement announcing the full class.
We'll stick with just covering the Soccer commits for now, but look forward to having a full report on the freshmen class for Field Hockey in the coming days.
Inger Katrine Bjerk
Inger Katrine Bjerk comes to us across the water from Baerum, Norway. The UofL Soccer press release has a quote talking about Bjerk playing middle-back as a defender, but all of the other information I can find about her has her listed as a forward. All the more reason to come out and watch some soccer games in the fall to see where she ends up playing. Regardless, Bjerk has consistently been a part of teams reaching the highest echelons of Norwegian soccer with third place and runner-up finishes in the U19 championships. Bjerk is also a very talented Tennis player.
Shelby Cohen
From the farthest travel, to the closest, Shelby Cohen is from LaGrange, KY and has consistently played at the top levels of Soccer in Kentucky. Cohen has been on the All-State First team all fours of her high school play, from 2010-2013. Shelby will play in the midfield.
Kaela Dickerman
Cedar Rapids, Iowa brings us Kaela Dickerman. Another First Team All-State honoree, Dickerman is also an attacker playing at the forward position.
Chatham DeProspo
Home for Chatham is Goshen, NY, but she's coming to Louisville from IMG Academy, out of the Tampla Bay, FL area. IMG Academy is a college prep school focused on student-athletes. DeProspo plays center mid-field.
Caitlyn Flores
Caitlyn Flores will be arriving from Dumfries, VA, which is near Washington, D.C. Another midfielder, Flores played at Forest Park High School, and has been involved in the US National Program for Soccer.
Francesca Fischer
Francesca Fischer is a GoalKeeper from Naples, FL, and is credited with 43 shutouts at Naples High School in her career. Fischer is already familiar with Louisville, having participated in some of the Elite Summer Camps here.
Victoria Gabor
From White Hall, MD, which is a bit north of Baltimore is another GoalKeeper, who is also familiar with Louisville thanks to the UofL Soccer camps. Gabor's academic accolades balance quite well with her many athletic honors.
Isabella Habuda
Isabella Habuda is the other import for this class, coming to Louisville from Belle River, Ontario, Canada. Belle River is part of Lakeshore, a suburb of Windsor, across the Detroit River, and thus the US-Canada border, from Detroit, Michigan. Habuda is a forward and will be called upon to replace some of the offense lost by Louisville to graduation last year. Habuda has also competed in Track and Field at the 100 to 400 meter distances. Isabella has played in the Canadian National Soccer Program U17 level.
Victoria Martinis
Victoria Martinis hails from Highland Heights, OH, a suburb of Cleveland. Listed as a midfielder, she apparently has seen time in a number of different positions. Victoria played for Lake Catholic High School.
Allison Price
Allison Price joins the UofL Soccer team from the heart of our new conference home, The ACC. Clemmons, NC is just outside Winston-Salem. Allison is a forward and will help to replace the graduating offense from last year's team. Price has also competed in a number of Track and Field events as well as Cross-Country.
Darby Schwarz
Another player staying relatively close to home, Darby Schwarz is just coming down I-71 from Cincinnati. Darby will be a defender and played high school at St. Ursula Academy.
Bridget Stewart
Last, but certainly not least, Bridget Stewart is from O'Fallon, MO, outside St. Louis. Stewart is listed as a mid-fielder, but also plays up front at forward on occasion. Another runner, Bridget also competed in Cross-Country at her high school Fort Zumwalt South.
Tennis vs Morehead State
The Morehead State Eagles come into the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center this afternoon at 3pm. Morehead State is 1-3 coming into the match, while the Cardinals sport a team 1-2 record. The losses came at the hands of a #2 ranked Florida team and a very good DePaul team.
Women's Tennis will be in action again Saturday, also at Bass-Rudd, against Evansville at noon, and then will play Cincinnati at 2pm on Sunday.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the new flock members update. My New Years resolution was to make a commitment to attend and learn more about the various UL women's sports.
Sandy W.
Glad to help. Softball is leaving this morning to head to sunny Florida (oh, how I wish I could be going with them and get away from this iceworld we seem to be living in right now) to play this weekend. They have another Florida tournament next weekend.
DeleteHopefully we will have thawed out by the 21st for their home opener at newly renovated Ulmer Stadium.
The Lacrosse season opener is Sunday at Duke. They return for their home opener on the 16th. As we've talked about on the radio show some, Lacrosse doesn't have all that many home games this year, so you'll want to make some extra effort to catch them when they are here.
