#5 VolleyCARDS face NC State -- Hyped for WBB -- FRIDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

FRIDAYS WITH DARYL

GoOoOOOd morning fans! I am especially joyous for this weekend as we are officially into the holiday season... which for me and a lot of others, means the start of basketball season.

The Cards open the 2022-23 season in a couple days when they host another one of those teams down the road, the Cincinnati Bearcats on Monday at 5PM at the KFC Yum! Center. Former Cards associate coach Micelle Clark-Heard is the skipper of the Bearcats.

UofL WBB will unveil its 2022 Final Four banner in the rafters. The '21-22 squad earned the program its fourth trip to the Final Four this past season and the '22-23 squad will look to improve on that feat.  Olivia Cochran and Hailey Van Lith are the returning starters from the Final Four squad.

Speaking of HVL...  she was mentioned on another national list earlier this week.

ESPN listed the top 25 women's basketball players in the country and Hailey Van Lith was ranked ninth this season. It is the second-straight year Van Lith has made the Top 25 list as she was listed #18 prior to last season.  She is one of three ACC players listed in the Top-10.  Liz Kitley (VT) is #5 and Olivia Miles (ND) comes in at #8.

ESPN writer, M.A. Voepel about Van Lith, "Van Lith heated up in ACC play last year, and then really showed her stuff in the postseason as the Cardinals made the program's fourth Final Four appearance. She scored 20 points or more in Louisville's first four NCAA tournament games and was the Wichita Regional's Most Outstanding Player."

Here are her stats from the Final Four run

So head on down to the Yum! Center Monday after you leave the office for a serving of UofL WBB Happy Hour!  Its going to be a great season, Louisville fans!

Available only on ACCNX

The Wolfpack comes in at 12-11 on the season and 6-6 in the ACC. They have lost 4 of their last 5 matches. NC State split the weekend securing a 3-0 win against Clemson on Friday night and fell 3-1 against #10 Georgia Tech on Sunday.

(An interesting resume for Marty...from Poland, spent freshman year at Hawaii)

Martyna Leoniak, a 6-3 sophomore outside, led the Wolfpack with 19 kills hitting .326 with five blocks, and 14 digs in the loss against Georgia Tech. Leoniak has 137 kills, 135 digs, and 29 blocks on the season.  NC State is averaging 12.5 kills and less than 3 blocks per set.

The Cardinals hold a 7-1 advantage over the Pack. UofL swept NC State 3-0 in their 2021 meeting in Raleigh (25-19, 25-20, 25-21). Claire Chaussee had 10 kills and four blocks and Amaya Tillman hit .500 with five kills on 10 swings and added three blocks in the contest.

Will we get DeBeer back for this one? We're a better team with her, but NEVER rush rehab on a knee...
